Fabia 1.4mpi engine cover oil leak

Featured Replies

In the last 6 months, missus car has started to drip engine oil on my nice block paved drive, more so since had an oil change & service recently (I'm guessing new oil is thinner...?). It appears contstantly "wet" around the rocker cover (underneath the engine cover). Assuming this is the source, how much dismantling would it take to remove this & fit a new gasket? What other bits would I need to remove, is this going to turn into a major job? Thanks.

From Haynes manual - You will need to,

Dissconect battery negative lead

Drain cooling system

Remove air cleaner and air components

Remove rocker gear

You can now replace the rocker cover gasket. Not a big or difficult job, but you may need new bolts and definately will need a torque wrench. Rocker settings are 25nm or 18 lbf ft.

Hopefully that will be the source, if not its another 3 pages of instructions to take the head off. . .

I would invest in a Haynes manual before starting, just incase you get stuck.

If the oil is on top of the rocker cover, that would point to a blocked PCV breather forcing oil past the filler cap due to excessive crankcase pressure. Might also just be a worn seal in the rocker cap.

Make sure oil level is not too high, and check PCV system.

:confused:Why disconnect battery, drain the cooling system, remove air filter? There's really no need!:) Half hours work at the most I reckon.
