Pressure washer

Featured Replies

my grandad just gave me a pressure washer, its unbranded cheap rubbish really but i thought that would be good to rinse off a car and aid giving a good clean.

havn't tried it yet or anything as it didnt come with a connection for the water supply

it came with like a pot to screw into the lance which im pressuming you would put the likes of the snow foam in?

if thats right can someone give me some direction on using the snow foam stuff properly, i.e how much to mix with water (if any) and do i just put it straight into that pot?

thanks, chris

anyone?

I normally put about an inch in the bottle and top up with water. If I going to wax the car after I will put in about a 50/50 water and a snow foam mix. My snow foam lance is only a cheap one from Halfrauds but it does the job.

i have an rac one which is pretty much useless and a karcher one which works quite well. usually fill it up with 50-100% concentrate autoglim shampoo spray it over the car, leave it five minutes, spray it off, then wash with two bucket method.

thanks, so it doesnt hurt on a really dirty car to do full concentration in that pot?

mines cheaper than halfrauds cheapest

but i dont care if it does the job!

If you do it too strong it will strip any wax you have on the car.

If you intend to take it right back, prepare it and start again then that shouldn't be an issue.

doesnt necessarily strip the wax, to do that you need to keep it on for a good 15 minutes, but if its a case of spray it on to soak into the dirt and wash it straight off then using something like autoglym will be fine. to strip it you are better off using karcher concentrate stuff that you can get in b&q for doing caravans and patios with.

As has been suggested Chris, full concentration will be fine if you want to strip away everything on the paintwork but this will also depend on the solution you put into your 'pot'...........

If you put on a neat solution that is wax safe at 4% contact rate the wax *will* be adversely affected almost immediately.

G3 is fairly harsh mate so I would watch your speed on the mop and watch out that you don't leave any buffer trials...........you using a soft pad?

No worries mate, not a problem, like I said you know where I am.........

i tried your method to strip the car of wax last year and it didnt work, i ended up using 2 loads of karcher pressure washer stuff for doing caravans with at 100% and still the wax wouldnt lift.

The autoglym shampoo can be put into the karcher spray lance and as its added with water at the most of ag 25:75 h20 it wont actually strip the wax as its got conditioners in it and with it being washed off within 5 minutes of it being sprayed on doesnt actually remove the wax, if it does its very minute and with aquawax being put on my car after each wash (mainly to remove water marks) i never notice any difference.

Without being rude, I think I trust the chemist who made the bilt hamber products and the people who make the other foams who say neat foam solution will strip wax.

The AG shampoo isn't snow foam though is it. You lance might do a maximum of 3:1, but that doesn't mean all lances behave that way and also it is totally dependant on the flow rate of the pressure washer you are using it with.

Conditioners are water softeners so are going to have approximately zero affect on whether it strips wax or not.

As for aquawax, that's all well and good if you don't mind increasing the chance of swirls. I'll happily stick to a proper was, prepare, polish, sealant and a couple of layers of wax, then wash with car myself.
