Not necessarily ... Put this to a test on a run back from Worthing to London on the A24 (all dual carriageway and lots of roundabouts) with a work collegue in his 335i coupe. My remapped Octy 1 was equal to the 335i off the roundabouts in second gear , but in third it was game over :(, although he couldn't get away from me that quickly. He did admit that he was gunning it too. I was chuffed to bits as I had just had the remap done (212bhp, 223lb ft on 95RON). Now I see any e46 and most e90's below an M3 as easy meat.

your two weeks late son.

a twin turbo strait six 3 litre being faster than a mildly tuned single turbo 1.8

shock horror.

just for the record, 3.0 straight six twin turbo with 301bhp and 295lbft weighing 1525Kg(197bhp/ton) Vs a 1.8 straight 4 single turbo with "212bhp" and "223lbft" weighing 1375Kg(154bhp/ton)

looking on super chips site even a remapped 335i is making peak torque of 490Nm at ~2000rpm and still has 90% (450Nm)of that at nearly 5500rpm so an awesome power band! where as at similar rpm's the vrs is making around 170Nm at 2000rpm and doesn't peak until 3500 where it makes 335Nm but then falls very quickly and at 5500rpm its only got 238Nm.

so quite how they could ever compare god knows.

Superchips claim the remapped TDI PD VRS has about 200bhp and 318lbft. I have yet to confirm this. I also have no idea how it would compare with any 320d except for me the Tourer's boot is too small which is why I bought the Octy estate. It definitely outperforms BMW in that respect :D

hopefully my brother will get his car mapped and de-cat'd soon and i shall compare the performance and see how they compare

That will be a Remapped VRS vs a 320d with de-cat and remap.

i honestly think off the line ill eat him alive and stay there but from a rolling 40ish start onwards he will beat me.

i would expect the 320 to take the lead but the vRS to keep gaining pace and pass with the 320 loding more and more ground.

May I be the first to say...

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

i'll see your :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: and raise you with a you must be ****ing joking

kept up with a 335i.....:D

FWIW I have a 330Ci and a vRS, and I am not entirely sure that the 330Ci is quicker. On paper, yes, comprehensively, but to drive... well, let's just say that it could be the sensation of speed is downplayed in the (undeniably better-constructed) 330, but it's certainly not a night and day thing...

The 330 is probably the better car, all-in, but the vRS certainly punches above its weight and price...

Are any of them remapped?

I wouldn't waste time racing BMW diesels, over the xmas holidays I managed to hold off a 53 plate BMW M3 Coupe for about 15 laps of Brands Hatch Indy at a Trackday...

I only have a cheap remap and all else standard even got cheap Kuhmo tyres!

I owned a 52 plate M3 coupe. There is no way on earth an Octavia VRS would out track it. The driver must have been clinically dead

FPMSL, please do post some video footage of this :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

When Autocar reviewed the vRS (apparently running at 190bhp iirc) it said nothing short of a 330i would be need to keep up with it to 100mph.

330i is like you say a better car all round though, I think the problem with bmws is- they are TOO refined if you want to feel speed. My friend has a 330d (brand new) and it really doesn't feel quick- although of course it is.

In terms of E46 m3s, they are fairly quick- but not incredible. I've had a couple of plays 30-90mph in the 205 mi16 and can honestly say the m3 didn't pull much on it at all. Then again they are about the same bhp/tonne. No doubt after 90mph the bmw would fly off though...

I've never really been into BMWs though, for me there are plenty of other cars I want to own over a BMW.
