it's still the classic mate Vs mate argument hence the post really out of interest. :)

I'm not that bothered really but I will inevitably end up having a race.

Well sort it out amongst yourselves, you know like men do. And when you do make sure you don't kill anyone.

Hint........And whatever the result keep it too yourself as you may get laughed which ever way it goes :)

I admire your honesty in this most humbling of times :rofl::P:P

a twin turbo strait six 3 litre being faster than a mildly tuned single turbo 1.8

shock horror.

I remember seeing pictures of Octavia SDi's from this very site harassing and humiliating 911's on trackdays.

it wasn't an SDi.

Assuming you are talking about an E46, it would be a close thing up to legal speed limits. The vRS might edge ahead eventually but by then you are talking Autobahn speeds.

And an E90 320d - forget it. Remaps to slightly more bhp than a remapped vRS, and almost one and a half times the torque of a remapped vRS... you'd need a bigger turbo

e46 wouldn't be that close looking at things, e46 only remaps to about standard vRS power so when remaped the vRS has around 20-30bhp more, weighs 150Kg less and has lower transmission losses so *should* be quicker as in a pre setup drag race torque gets you know where its bhp that wins, towrue is excellent for lazy in gear driving.

e90 i would think to be very close indeed and go down to driver/reaction times as weight is virtually the same, vRS power is slightly higher and the vrs again *should* have lower loses but it would be woo close i think and if one got on the power just 1 second before the other they would win.

Except it was only badged as an SDI. It was a well tweaked TDI with a good driver. ;)

I took a 57 plate 320d in my standard vRS. Coming from a 30 doin 30 he pulled out to pass, i floored it in 2nd and we kept goin all the way up to 110 and he could not get passed my rear quarter!! Eased off after that. He was glued to my bumper and was not a happy chappy.

std to std it is a fair fight but remap to remap its diff as the 320d will get bags more torque than the odty but less power. mind arnt the new 320d 170 bhp std? then id say remapped weel to 200-210? and 350+ftlb?

Sat right behind a new 325d for a good 20 miles of A road.

There was no way I could get past but I was right there in his mirror.

I meant an remapped e46 and a standard vRS.

I reckon a remapped e90 would beat a remapped Octy vRS, it remaps to over 220bhp and 320ft/lbs torque whereas the vRS remapped is something like 217bhp and 230ft/lbs  Not sure what the weight difference is though I'd imagine the Beemer is a lot heavier, also not sure if the heavy diesel engine means less weight goes to the back when it accelerates and it is more likely to lose traction

My names Sam Tyler, one minute I was sitting in Hamburg browsing my favourite car forum when I was struck on the head. When I came round ......................................I was in Max Power ;)

I know that man :) It's all lost in the transition from thought to post I guess.

I know ..... I know .... but the point was it was an old shonky peice of czech assembled VW cast off's that through the skill of the driver was seeing off some of Stuttgart's finest. I was just trying to make the point that even a tweaked (heavily or otherwise) TDi should not be able to beat a porker if the drivers where equals.

:)

I'm going to write it with an Etch a Sketch next time :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Really interesting post.

I recently purchased a car and drove both the VRS (Diesel) and the 320d (177). Can't get two more different cars!!!!

The new 320d remaps to 210BHP and 310 LbFt ish.

You waited a year and a half since joining too post that.:confused:

This is about the mk1 octy not the mk2 diesel.

Didnt realise you bit over here.

Oh ok.

My old 1.8t (Ibiza) feelt very quick and would have edged the mapped 320d in straight line not sure about the octy though?

Didnt realise you bit over here.

Thats not biting, that was just probing.

Just sold my car not long after joining thats all. Just happens that I bought the 320d recently and considered mk2 octy as well

Not necessarily ... Put this to a test on a run back from Worthing to London on the A24 (all dual carriageway and lots of roundabouts) with a work collegue in his 335i coupe. My remapped Octy 1 was equal to the 335i off the roundabouts in second gear , but in third it was game over :(, although he couldn't get away from me that quickly. He did admit that he was gunning it too. I was chuffed to bits as I had just had the remap done (212bhp, 223lb ft on 95RON). Now I see any e46 and most e90's below an M3 as easy meat.
