F1 scoring changes

Featured Replies

I honestly don't know anyone who's actually come out totally in favour of this idea. I think it has annoyed the cognocentii, and will just confuse the casual viewer.

I'm all ready confused! :D seems like a stupid idea to change something that already works?

just get rid of the points system totally but go with whoever wins the most races wins the series - 2nd place is just the first loser after all :D

I've just heard on the radio, that the FIA are delaying the change to most wins & might even drop the idea.

I see what they are doing... In a bid to promote grass roots racing they are effectivly making this a very expensive banger race.

Just imagine, lets take a driver that is very good in a good car, when they get close to the win somebody will punt them off, so actually watching the races might result in a few interesting racing incidents.

Touring car champs seem to work, points wise. Points for pole, fastest lap, wins, random grid swaps. we've all seen how the traditional non front row runners can actually race, given half a chance.

Personally I'd quite like to see a balncing of the cars, let the tech rains off, set budget limits, maybe equalise on the power to weight, leaving aero, drivers skill and tactics to play a much bigger role than the berniebucks currency that prevails now.

How about a completely radical, off the wall idea.

Let's not have drivers allocated to individual teams.

Have 10 different makes of car, and each driver has two races in a season in each car, with only one pre-race testing session before practice prior to each race.

That way, any advantage gained by the quality of the car should be offset by the quality of the driver, leading to more driver/car equality throughout the season, giving the 'lesser' drivers the opportunity to drive a 'better' car, and vice versa.

I'll have to go now - the green van has just arrived to take me away.

Bernie had that brain wave too. Schuey was very keen on the idea. Teams and sponsors werent.

 Maybe you could find me a room in the same institution as Mr Ecclestone

I have to confess that I was actually looking forward to see what would happen with the 'most wins' system. As I believe this would completely change the way that top teams plan their race strategies, and we might able to see some dirty tactics and first corner crashes!!

And then you'd have the stewards deciding who wins the championship!

You mean like last year.

It is boring to watch though. The cars are so good that they could be Scalextric models. The drivers may be at the pinnacle of automotive skill it just doesn't look like it.

Nothing much happens for a lot of a race, maybe they need to make the cars look like they are going fast again even if they are actually going slower.

The reduced downforce, and return to slicks (which should accomodate more slip angle) might help there. I'm not saying it will, but I am saying to give it a chance rather than moan about old regs.

this season should be great, i loved watching last season, the last race made it exciting to watch again as driver fought to win.

i'm glad they've ditched the stupid idea of most wins. all the other changes this season should keep it interesting enough.

roll on sunday.... :D
