1.9D Felicia's can be good

Featured Replies

Hi,

After reading some of the posts where some peeps say that the diesel felicia isn't very good, I thought I had to jump to the defence of my poor old Felly lol. She is a 97 model and was given to me by someone who didn't look after her that well. I have tried to do the best for her and will be sorting her bodywork out this summer. Anyway, I had to do a trip to Cambridge this weekend which included motorways, country roads, towns and plenty of roadabouts. The plucky little girl managed to do 51 miles to the gallon over the whole journey there and back. Not only that, but I wasn't taking it careful either as the return trip was 125 miles, which we managed to do in 130 minutes. OK, maybe it isn't earth shattering performance, but at the same time the poor old dear managed to hold her head and make me proud. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not having ago at the other posts as this is posted as a bit of fun. Maybe my car is a rare case (I don't know). But after only owning her for about 5 months, I have to say that I am pleased as punch with her and that I am actually looking forward to being able to get her completely up to scratch this summer. 1.9D aren't that bad as long as you are willing to make adjustments for them, like having to drop down a gear to overtake, whereas in a petrol car you wouldn't have to. Anyway, that's my little car's honour defended lol.

Cheers

Ian

I don't think its a case thats its a bad engine just a bad choice of engine for the car I think. Heavy engine in a car already suffering from body roll (hence why the dervs were fitted with an ARB) and also not the most powerful engine although having driven one myself and I honestly say I was suprised... had enough grunt to get it moving pretty quick... just like you say requires an extra heavy foot to make it do that.

Glad you had a good trip and thats pretty good economy for a round trip with town driving mixed in too.

Oh don't worry, I know what you mean. But as you said yourself, I was pleasantly surprised at the performance that it gave. This post is just a bit of fun as I know that there are loads of people on here that love their Felicia's to bits and I thought everyone would appreciate a little bit of fun. However, I honestly would not have given this car a second thought had it not been given to me, but now I love it to bits. I don't know if it's the typical British thing of loving the underdog, but I really enjoy owning this car. He he pinkskud, so would I, but I don't think my one would be able to hack it as she has already done 128,000 miles lol.

have to say, mine has put up with some honest to goodness Abuse! since ive owned it and had never skipped a beat

Great car!

Pretty quick too when wound up

We ran an old one at work for a couple of years, and it was rough. We couldn't break it, my colleague said with disappointment, after he'd just MOT'd it and passed it "looks like I'll have to run it for another year". It did go shortly after that, not to the scrap yard - we sold it.

Are we talking Fabia vRS engine conversion in the Felly? :D

You know you want to.... :P

Hiya.

125miles in 130minutes on "ordinary roads" is good going for anyone driving in a more or less law abiding manner.
