Darn bird droppings

Featured Replies

I've just managed to clean of a huge bird poop from my rear wing, problem is I used the scouring sponge (ones you use for washing up) used the sponge side, wasn't working and then rough side (lightly) started removing it (and also the glare/shine from the paint! it's dark so only street light glare, not seen it in the day yet!) It's a recently painted panel, so wondering if that's why it's had such an effect. Have used scouring sponges before but this has never happened. I already feel a champion nob having found better ways to do this and should have known better!

Is there any polish type of stuff or wax that would help remedy it do you think?

Eek!

OK first off, in future soak the bird poo with lots of flowing water from a hose until it flows off by itself. Birds eat grit to form their eggs, and their poo is full of tiny sand like particals.

Using a scourer you have basically wet sanded the top coat, hence the dull patch. This will need to be polished up with either a DA or rotary polisher, or plenty of elbow grease using a suitable product. I would use Autoglym Super Resin Polish on a Megs foam applicator. It will probably take three or four passes to get the shine back. Finish off with a coat of decent wax with a high carnuba content, job done.

i use AG active insect remover, spray on and put a cloth over it, let it soak in for 30 secs or so and it will just come off. otherwise wait till you wash it and soak it with a tar remover and jet wash it off. DONT RUB IT IN it will cause more damage and try and remove it asap.

Thanks for your recommendations, will give em a go. Have another slight scuff caused by a bike tyre I think on the door, so may get a man to do that as I think it may require more work.

Just looked at it in the light of day and it does look like a pretty dull mark :( About the size of a slice of bread

For future use, get a rag and soak it in warm water then leave it over the droppings for 5 minutes or so until the item in question has gone soft. It will then just wipe off.

Potentially worth keeping some autoglym bird dropping wipes in the car so you can catch the things before they set like rock

I swear some of the birds around my way are eating concrete at the moment as some of it is nigh on black and is a mission to remove!

I live by the coast, and the Gulls come across in fighter formation, and drop bird poo cluster bombs :-((((((((((((((((((

pmsl

I could use that at work, we have seagulls nesting on the roof. I've had to clean their "little" presents off the car twice this week already.

Ungrateful little beggers birds. You feed them all winter and come spring, they cac all over your motor. A Bill Oddie type once told me, it's because they think they are over water when they see their reflection in your newly washed and polished paintwork.

I just think they are mean.

Best thing for Bird Droppings is firstly to ensure you get them off the paintwork ASAP as this does eat through the lacquer very quickly but I carry some Megs Detailer Wipes in the boot which is great for removing Bird Droppings............:D
