am new to the forum, hope you can help.

I need a headlamp for my 2000 Octavia. I gather there were was a change in the middle of 2000, and my car is the earlier spec. What is the difference to the headlight? Can I fit a 2001-2004 headlight to mine?

The headlamps are not easily interchangeable. The early headlamps had glass lenses which are replaceable and the later cars had headlamps with integral plastic lenses.

Is it not possible then to replace the complete headlamp unit on the early cars with a later (2001-) unit?

You'd need to replace both headlights, and the grille unit for certain. You might also have to replace one or both of the front bumper and bonnet.

The headlights are different widths, and having one of each would probably be illegal.

From 2001 onwards the headlights were a different shape as well. pre 200 they were parallel whereas the later ones were angled being wider towards the grill side.

I'm fairly sure the bumper, grill and headlights would all have to be changed if you go for the newer versions.
