parking sensors - will they, won't they?

Featured Replies

yep - yet another thread about pesky parking sensors

Things were going great. There I am - reading all these posts from people moaning about their sensors going dead or giving them earache with a constant squeal -thinking... well at four years old mine are fine, everything's fine, isn't life wonderful...

Then two weeks ago I get it - the usual beep when selecting reverse followed a nanosecond later by a squeal lasting for about 4 seconds; and this carried on for a couple of days.

The car was filthy (so not like SWMBO then ;)) so it got a deserved wash and the sensors worked fine. By gosh that's a cheap fix I thought .

Three days later the squeal returned with a vengeance and stayed on whenever in reverse :(:(:(. The next day, it worked fine again ; two days later it was back to occasionally squealing for a few seconds but working normally more often than not. Guess you get the gist by now - it's piggin' intermittent, ain't it!

So will VAGCOM show up which sensor is trying hard but failing dismally, even if they're all working OK when tested - or will I have to wait until it has well and truly expired to find out?

Any other type of test to identify the culprit? I have actually washed the car again , (just in case) and thumped about along the bumper - but to no effect.

cheers

Yes it should as there has been / is a fault.

Yes, vagcom will list the exact sensor failing, it'll log a permenant fault for just one random sensor failure.

The sensors are classified as left/right and central left/right when it comes back with the code.
