MX-5 Dilemma!

Featured Replies

I've been toying with the idea of selling my MX-5, due to needing an attic conversion on me hoose. I also have a '97 4.0l Jeep Grand Cherokee for added Polar Bear fatalities, which is fully paid for and serves as a good utility vehicle.

The rusty wheels on the MX-5 have now been replaced under warranty, so it's back to mint condition barring the odd stone chip. This evening I recieved a rather great offer (£9.6K) from We buy any car.com which is actually more than what they offered me a couple of weeks ago.

So do I sell now and clear my finance leaving me with about £5K plus the Jeep for deposit on a new car?

Or do I ride out the depreciation on the MX-5 (£16K paid in Jan '08) and keep it for another 2 years?

I'm leaning towards the sale just now.

Here we go again ;)

Look at that depreciation drop and I think you've just answered your own question. I hope. More than 6k in just over a year?!

Oh, and you mention a loft conversion then later in the post mention deposit for new car :P - do you never learn?

Hope this has helped!

hahaha I've had too much wine!

Let me think this through. I reckon in another 2 years my car will be worth about £7K?

so that's a £9K drop in 3 years, so £3K per year. As opposed to £6.5K in 1 year.

Hmmm. Thanks for your help, Steve.:o

That sounds more like it

Plus, over that time you get to enjoy the car whenever there's a nice sunny patch. So with all this global warming we're supposed to be getting, it'll be perfect :D

I think he's planning to convert his loft into a car park. In which case what he says makes perfect sense.

Something along these lines maybe......

Seems like a perfectly reasonable plan.

Phew, thank goodness for sensible Briskodians! I will be seeking your assistance again later this year when the new Mazda 3 MPS comes out!:thumbup:

Ohh, if you are building a loft conversion car park, can you reserve me a parking spot, I'm running out....

You could get a good deal on a mk1 by then, or Col's

You may have use of the multistory basement carpark that I am currently developing beneath the neighbour's hoose. Favourable rates etc.

But I want the New One. Coz it's New, and shiney shiney, and New. And also, it's the New One.....

Loft conversion  WTF

The wine goes in a cellar, numpty :P

+ I reckon there is substantial depreciation  in other areas going on due to the wine.

Do you expect me to believe that story for a second time Mr. Fritzel?

Nah - wine generally appreciates with age and cellaring until it turns...

As for the MX5 - did you use it yesterday in the sun? - if not then it's wasted so sell it to someone who will??

Nah seriously Wardy is right the depreciation is far too much of a hit - keep it.

Forget the loft, and the 3-MPS can wait, the latest Evo magazine has an interesting option for the mark3 MX-5:

Litchfield have just finished a supercharger kit :D:thumbup:

With summer coming round it could be perfect (if you like the feeling of the rain through your hair!)

Nah, Pitt bought the '5 to slow him down, after a 6 MPS. Don't speed him up again!

:P

and presumably cos he had hair to cut?! :P:rofl:

Truth be told, I always have the roof down, even on freezing frosty mornings, there's nowt better to wake you up or clear the previous evening's hangover:rolleyes: If it rains, I just drive faster, and it seems to blow over the cabin. Still love the car to death after a year which is unusual for me, I just worry too much about having 2 cars.

hahaha Only in the UK. Some chancer mentions that it may be luke warm during the 'summer' months, and we all feel genuine disappointment and disgruntlement when it turns out like every other summer we've ever had.

Beautiful British outlook.

Try having three... :eek::D

Now .... what you need is to swap that hairdressing chariot for a nice sporty roomster or even a very tasteful Kawasaki Z1000 :)
