Coil Light

Featured Replies

Hey,

Just a quick question.

It used to be on 'old' diesels that you waited until the coil light had went out before you turned the ignition over - is this/should this still be the case in newer diesel lumps? Want to 'educate' my wife on the new motor to reduce the chances of any potential problems.

Yes you wait until the glow plug light goes out before starting the car.

the fabias still have them, but they need little more than a second and the coil has done it's job. I remember waiting 8+ seconds to fire up a ZX TD. Fabia is much faster.

You should wait really, but the wait is very short and unless it's very cold I don't bother.

I always wait for mine to go out, can sometimes take a few seconds longer on cold mornings but it's not a problem.

Likewise; in fact I normally wait til the diagnostics lights start going out.
