Ok, has anyone had this done recently?

I had been reading on here that the cambelt is due at 60k, I am ignoring age as I do a lot of miles, and the car is an 06 plate. However, when I recently booked mine in for its 60k service, THREE different Skoda dealers all stated that it is not due till 80k.

So I ended up getting the 60k service done at one of the dealerships (no cambelt), but am still a bit concerned with this variation in what I am reading on here and what the dealers say.

Have Skoda changed this recently or something?

My local dealer told me every 40k or three years!

Having a service on 51.5k today - getting the cam belt done aswell, just to be on the safe side!

Yes, never been replaced. I do a lot of mileage so will always hit mileage limits way before age limits. I will likely hit 80000 towards the end of the year.

As said every 3 years or 60000

So it really should have it changed. I know I would change it if I did your sort of mileage. Price of cambelt change vs new engine.

Service book are printed at a given time and i'm afraid go out of date and you never get a new one. The computer system that dealers use it updated daily by the factory,

By as an aside, no harm in doing it at 60k for a bit of piece of mind if you so choose.

"ASZ and BLT engines" Doesn't mean that much to me. Non-technical type I'm afraid. A vRS has waht sort of engine? I'd been saving my pennies for a change at 60K which is approaching soon. Does this mean I have more pocket money??? Whoop!

So my ASZ engine Ibiza doesnt need a cambelt change at 60k... I keep telling people this as ive done 65k now! However I think its wise to get it changed anyway, cant do any harm, other than on my wallet!

I can't speak for SEAT, different service plans.

My 05 plate was on 37 k, and has just had it's 40k mile service, cambelt and waterpump, I'd rather be safe than sorry !

Cant see a difference, it has no warrenty after 60k anyway... so wouldnt matter if the service plan was different, as the engine is the same

Im gunna get mine done when I have the cash either way!

Only reason some dealers say 40k is no one takes their cars to dealers for a service so they are skint!

i've got my vrs booked in at a skoda dealer in edinburgh its 4 year old in june but only done 41,000 miles they didn't ask any questions about mileage or age.they did say they would only look at the water pump which is surprising to say i'm willing to pay for a new one :confused:

4 years or sixty thou according to Skoda, certainly that for my 05 VRS. Having the belt done at Impossible Performance on Wed as had Dealer Warning letter as car coming up for four years. Had 30k service back in Dec.My dealer only quotes for belt and tensioner and doesn't do the pump as well so going indy for this job.

hi there im new to the forum ,i am picking up my vrs on the weekend i hope ,the 1 im getting is a 54 plate on 87k , had a look in the book and i got a little confused , do they call it any thing else in the book . when i looked in the book brefely it said somthing about 2 belts beeing dun at a skoda main dealer at i think it was 67k , do u think that would of been them ,or is it a book it in now job ,if has not been dun how much am i looking to be dun

Anyhow, a cam belt could also be called a timing belt

i think it was that ,lol i was in a bit of a high about buying it so i didnt really looking at it properly ,but in the book where it says what they have done its was the 2 belts that they mention ??

i think i saw something about pullys to if that changes it ,im sorry if im clogging up the tread with worrieng ,its just that its on 87k so if it hasnt been done im on a tight rope :(

I had my vRS serviced at Mitchells Skoda in Chester at the weekend.

They said it should be changed every 4 years OR 80,000 miles.

I must stress that for the earlier engines (euro 3) it is four years or 60k. For the guy with the 87k car, you should be ok if belt done at 67k.A bit late but engine survived. Change if done more than 4 years ago to be safe.I have been quoted£270 for belt, tensionser and water pump.

Just to fetch this back up again,

I have just booked my vrs in for its 50k service and asked for a price on cambelt being changed at 60k and they said it doesnt need doing untill 80k on mine !

I think 80k is a long time to wait to have the belt changed I'll be asking again on thursday
