Fixed Or Variable Servicing.

Featured Replies

My car has now done 8,700 miles and on starting the car it says there are 700 miles till a service. Do I ignore that or wait for the 1 year service in mid May?

If you wait then you will invalidate your warranty. First service is around 10K or 12 months whichever occurs first.

Skodas are due for service every 15,000 km. 9400 miles equates to 15,000 km (approx).

I thought it was 9_000 miles or annually, whichever came first? Either way, the car warns you that it will need a service soon, starting about 1 month/1_000 miles before it thinks the service is due.

Thanks for the reply. I shall check it out in the manual.............Why didn't I do that in the first place?

Mine did not tell me to service the car it was on 7700 and 18months old it read a service required @ 9000. I have had it serviced but still yet to reach 9000, so the maxidot must make its own mind up to some degree?

I checked out the manual & it said 15,000 km. I don't know if I could get away with 10,000 miles or whether it would invalidate the warranty?

Doing the service at 10k miles or 12 months is fine. In my case the difference is about three weeks as I drive more than 200 miles per week.

If you do less miles, you need the 12 month service to refresh the oil as low miles is actually more damaging than more miles, particularly if they are mostly short journeys where the engine barely gets warmed up.

My Fabias first servce was done at 9415 miles by a Skoda approved garage. They said the next service was due at 19415 miles or one year from the date of the first service (whichever comes first).

I have to question this as synthetic oil is surely fine for mileage and times that far exceed the makers recommendations, which in the main is a great source of income to the dealers. Skoda (VAG) cars have some of the shortest service intervals and seem to lag far behind other makers.

Is the fixed servicing 15,000 km or 10,000 miles?

For the UK market fixed servicing (QG0) is 10,000 miles or 1 year.

Generally speaking your are fine 1k either way.
