Fabia Power Steering Warning light

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can anyone offer any help regarding the persistent power steering warning light on my Fabia (1.9 TDi) ?

The car is over 3 years old, and in its early life, the fault was very rare. Dealers either didn't believe me, or said that they couldn't find anything wrong.

Now the car is out of warranty (as if the car knows it), the fault has become much more frequent. Also, whereas before, the assistance always remained, it has now started losing assistance suddenly. Turning the engine off / on resets it, and sorts it out for a while longer.

I do notice the headlights flickering a lot (has happened since new), which is another fault that the dealers could never acknowledge either - so I do wonder if the faults are related.

Can anyone shed any light on what might be at fault - and how I go about diagnosing it properly ?

Thanks,

Rob.

Welcome to briskoda..

I think the most common powersteering related problem has always turned out to be the steering wheel position sensor.

have a look HERE

theres also lots of results that come up using the search function.. its quite a common issue

If killing the engine resets it, then I believe a sensor is to blame, most likely the one Col points out above! :D

There's loads of PAS angle sensors goin on ebay, if thats what it is. If I had your problem I'd see about getting one of them.

[suddenly wonders where the PAS sensor would be on his old car]

Its more than likely the PAS sensor, they get water in them and go faulty.

Thanks for the info. Reading the other threads, the wheel sensor does seem to be the common theme. Although the car is out of its warranty, I have copies of several letters that I wrote to Skoda UK during the warranty period where they reckoned there was nothing wrong with the system ! Maybe I will write back to them and invite them to retro-repair it under warranty, like they should have done to start with !
