A few of my photos

Featured Replies

Fairly new to photography - got my first DSLR at the start of the year - but thought I'd share a few of my best efforts so far.

Got a Sony A300 with an 18-70mm Sony lens and a 70-300mm Tamron lens.

Let me know what you think...

Had a go at some shots of the moon with the big lens:

Some wildlife while on holiday in Florida:

At Silver Springs park in Florida:

And a sunset taken out of our back bedroom window:

Pretty chuffed with the quality of the images (and how easy it was to get those pictures). Haven't messed about with the images (other than cropping them).

Nice sunset:thumbup:

At least with the bird in flight you managed to get him all in the frame, more than I managed:rofl: I have some nice images of wing tips:D

I have a strange urge to take pics of the moon. I just haven't seen a decent one for a while.

Goes off to have a look:)

some nice pics there mate. that sunset does look rather delicious. worth investing in some Cokin lens filters, i have a selection and they made ur images banging!

a neutral density is a must, nd i have a sunset, blue grad, yellow grad, green, red and purple grads (somewhere) make a nice combination and u cn have some pretty funky effects :)

The moon is quite an interesting thing . . . ive had a few nice shots of it. had to use the bulb mode tho to get the right exposure. am after a nice new canon to replace my 350d but might have to wait a while yet :(

Cheers for the comments.

Bought a couple of cheap ($20 for 2) filters (UV and Polorised) in Walmart while I was in Florida, just to have a play with. Unfortunately, I haven't had a go with them yet. Will be off to Wales in a few weeks so will try to get some nice scenery shots - will play with the filters a bit then.

Sunset was done by putting the camera in sunset mode and playing round with the exposure. Took about 20 shots varying the settings and that was about the best one.

If you look carefully (really carefully on the size here!) you can make out a plane flying into Birmingham airport. (horizontal spec about halfway up and to the right of the poplars on the left).

Moon was done early Jan. Bloody freezing! Took the tripod out in the back garden and used the self timer on 2sec to stop shake. Again, messed around with all the settings until I got some good detail. The live view screen on the A300 helps a lot (especially when you're used to compact digital!) 1st one (darker) was done at night. 2nd one (lighter sky and yellower moon) was done early morning before going to work.

The crane was one of a pair - kept walking round behind the villa we stayed at in Florida. Pretty tame too - would take a biscuit out of your hand! The 'in-flight' vulture was fairly easy in the end. They were a good height so movement was reasonably easy to track. The hawk turned up toward the end of the holiday. Came and sat in a tree fairly close by so I crept out with my 300 lens and got as close as I could. Just happened to look at me as I took the picture too :D
