tips on the best way to paint stone chips!!!

Featured Replies

hi guys just got the little tub of paint from skoda to do the stone chips but has no instructions whats the best way to do it????

i have the paint and a pot of clear

is there a way of doing it so it doesnt stand out ??

thankyou

Use a cocktail stick to apply, not the brush

So much more control and avoids big blobs

Just seal it with the clear lacquer once filled

Cheers

how long do you leave the paint on before you put the clear on????

At least 24 hours I think

Easiest way is to mix the paint and clear together so you only have to do the job once.

at what ratio moggy?????

sounds like a better way

a black sparkly crayon sealed in with a decent hard wax looks better IMO

I like the sound of this - as when I have tried to use the clear stuff it's always like GLUE and I can't get it to run smooth. As previously asked what ratios paint to clear.

I use a ratio of 40% paint to 60% clear. I find a small sowing needle is ideal for really tiny chips. You soon get the feeling of how much paint to drop into the chip, without ending up with a huge blob that needs cutting back.

If it does stick out too far when dry what's the best way to get it down?

wet sand it with very very fine paper, then polish it off afterwards

When I'm doing stone chips touch in, I have a can of Isopropyl Alcohol at the ready with a clean cloth. If I get it wrong, I immediately swipe off the wet paint and start over. Wet sanding, then buffing back up is a royal pain, unless you are doing a total paint correction job.

Cocktail stick or twist the end of a soft tissue, and use that.

It's what dad does, and he works detailing some nice, and expensive motors and show cars/trucks

MoggyTech - you sound like you know what you're talking about.

Maybe I should get you show me how to do it on mine sometime

I think it takes a brave person to tackle a job like this. You guys make it sound so easy. I c**p myself washing my car. I see all the stone clips and just keep thinking that they will just go away. One day I will have to do something about them.
