Upgrading Audio Equip In Skoda Sport

Featured Replies

Currently I have a 4 speaker version of a Skoda Sport 1.2 2007 (56) with multi-changer. It sounds terrible though and I'm wondering what the best method to upgrade would be.

My first question is what is the power output in a symphony head unit? I ideally don't wish to replace this as swapping will never look as good.

Any work I'd like to carry out myself as I'm fairly technically minded but here are the options I've looked at.

Buy a pair of 4" speakers to put in the rear slots (I'd probably prefer to leave the tweeters in the door) however there is no wiring for this yet.

Firstly what speakers would you recommend from experience where is the best place to run the wires? the speakers will be in slots left and right of the parcel shelf in the section left for them.

Also would It make much difference if I were to just replace the front speakers as they sound really flat (again leaving the tweeters) with something a little better. Obviously the wiring is already there for these but if the head unit has a lowish output then is it going to make much of a difference?

I'm not in much of a rush to get this done so keep advising

If you want to upgrade the sound, then in my experiance the best and most cost effective way is to change the head unit. I'm aware that you have said you don't want to, but it'll dramatically improve the sound on the standard speakers.

All I've done in mine is changed the symphony unit to a Kenwood KVT-7200 (with the Skoda fascia adapter), and added a Fli 12" sub powered by a JBL GTO 4000.

In total, it cost about £550 to do and dramatically improved the sound.

(BTW, I trained as a sound engineer!)

One thing I have found is the 100mm surround speakers from 2005-6 Range Rover fitted with the Harman Kardon Logic 7 system are a direct replacement for the rears in a Fabia. :)

My previous car was a vRS, I just changed the head unit, the speakers themselves were fine.

As we all hear sound differently, whatever one poerson says is good may not be to your liking.

I would recommend you do the following:-

Find a head unit that is compatale with your speakers, and start there, if its still not to your liking then change the speakers.

Do your changes 1 at a time UNLESS, you have a compete system that you have heard before & do the change that way

Becker Grand Prix is a good head unit to keep the OEM look. Very plain looking compared to a lot out there but it's an awesome unit, easily the best sounding one I've owned and I've migrated from high spec Alpine units. Also has very good iPod integration if you buy the optional kit. Pioneers generally have a good reputation for sound but tend to be a bit flashy looking. I've only changed the head unit in mine and it really does improve the sound. I'm happy with the stock speakers as they are TBH.

Seriously, the head unit is crap. You won't realise how bad it is until you've switched to something better. The stock speakers aren't fantastic, but they're better than most stock ones! Its worth replacing just to get rid of that annoying bug of the volume changing when reversing that used to drive me mad!

got a green alpine media unit in mine atm, with the fascia adapter it looks pretty damn good. Might not have that "stock" look but i think its better all round without being chavy :)

Remember the OP has a Sport which only has front speakers 2 in the door plus the tweeters , first thing I would do would be fit the rear speakers , then worry about the HU after that.

Yeah I do like the idea of getting the rear speakers fitted as I do have people in the back now and then who cant hear a thing on motorways. Also I found on my old 106 that it just gave a fuller sound by giving me music rather than road noise from the back. However I'm not sure now as if I upgrade the head unit I know that it will sound much better although the only head unit I have really liked the look of so far is that becker one which I think I'll have to save up for after I pay my dad back for his car money loan :rotz:

Does anyone have any 4" Co-ax speaker recommendations to stick in the rear grills?
