Hi, my car seems to of developed a noise which starts at about 40 and gets louder the faster i go any idea? seems to come from infront of the driver.

Wheel bearing?

How much are wheel bearings, 51plate octavia vrs?

Is it unsafe to drive around with it like this?

What does the noise sound like?

Rattling, thudding, whistling, banging :confused:

It might be a wheel bearing, or a CV joint, or the gearbox, or the diff, or even a stone under a dust shield, and that's just drive train and wheel stuff! Bottom line, we need to know what the noise sounds like.

Front wheel bearing will cost between 120-200 fitted

It's a low toned whistling.

If you jack up the car you will be able to check the bearings. Try to rock the wheel from side to side and then from top to bottom. If it moves your bearing is gone...

And with a front wheel get it done asap. Back wheels can be left longer.

Even if there is no play, it might still be the bearing. Mine had no play and bearing was past its prime. Changed it, noise gone.
