With the rack out we discovered that the track rod ends and steering arms are different between the VRS and R32 doner rack. Not a problem as we just swapped over the steering arms. Nice and simple.

Did you try the R32/TT/S3 tie rods to see if they could be used? As they seem alot sturdier than the normal Golf/Octavia ones.

We did not use them as you would have to use the R32/TT/S3 track rod ends also, but the ones i had were damaged so could not be used.

I would lie the 2 racks next to each other and just ensure that you can get the correct total length so the tracking is okay :)

Kind Regards

Garry

Garry has your car got ESP?

Just be warned if people have got ESP fitted there has been some issues with the steering angle sensor, which hasn't been solved yet.

IIRC Vrs phil would have had esp in his wrc octy, I don't recall him having any trouble.

Whats the issue all about then ???

Nope my car is a poverty spec VRS with no toys :(

Garry

i think that ESP issue is going to be a calibration issue myself, seems obvious really as the steering angle sensor is on the steering column isn't it? therefore knows nowt about the rack itrself so the steering angle sensor is telling the esp your only turning half a lock when in reality your turning a whole turn say because your rack is quicker so the ESP thinks your sliding.

Well I have one on mine now :D fitted by Ross and Ali at U18 in less than 2 hours. Have only driven the 20 miles or so back from U18 but it definitely feels better than the old rack.

Steering is slightly heavier and gives more feel. Turn in is tight and as it should have been from the factory. Will give it a spirited run along some A roads soon to get a proper feel to it.

The faster you drive and the twistier the roads, the better it feels :D

Funnily enough I just got mine fitted. I agree on the comments and I haven't had a full test yet either. Is it me or does it seem to grip the road better ???

I would agree, it makes the car seem to offer more grip. Not sure if its a mental thing tho because you now have more confidence in the car.

Tis a great modification tho.

Wish i had my car fixed so i could drive it. Will have to keep driving this funny Nissan around instead.

As its at work and as i need to drive it for "development" its rude not to.

Garry

Thats a 5hit job you have there gary. :D

You should look for something that offers more perks :rofl::rofl:

Gary you lucky b£%&*#d!!!! I would so love to drive that car :D

I thought it gripped better too but assumed that it was in my mind :) maybe turning the wheel less to corner gives a mental illusion of enhanced traction or maybe it's just the extra feel of the front wheels and the confidence that inspires.

Who know's all I do know is this is possibly the best mod to date that I have done.

:orb_love_

You lucky T*** lol

I sure wouldnt want my car fixed in a hurry if that was the replacement.................................... Ok I'm lying but its still a nice replacement.

:orb_laugh

I guess I should really get one of these TT racks, sounds like an ace mod, ebay here I come lol.

billy

Fatty, where did you get urs from mate? Jus wonderin if you know any recers in cardiff? I am movin back mid june, also where did you go to get it fitted?

I keep putting it off and putting it off but I really need to phone my insurers and ok it with them then get the bl**dy thing fitted

I was going to use the old "my steering rack's borked and a mate has a spare TT one which will go straight in.... I realise this isn't an OEM part but please don't put my premium up..." line :)

Hi all,

Had the S3 rack fitted today but I have a bit of a problem :thumbdwn:

There is a slight knocking/grinding when the steering wheel is turned slightly, it happens both with the engine on and off.

Seems to be when there id strain put on the rack, just as the road wheel starts to turn there is a knock. Checked everything is tight. The original steering rods and rod ends where used from my old rack and swopped onto the S3 one.

Any ideas:confused:

Thanks,

Neil.

One of my arms (offside) was gone, when I fitted mine.

Geniune arm fitted in november .............FAIL

And to add insult too injury........I think the near side one has gone in the last few days as theres a noise from that area.

Might be of help too you
