your insurance quote is ......

:rofl::rofl: directline sent me my renewal after promising me the claim made last year would not affect my insurance etc etc and has come in at £363 phoned them up and explained that what the guy had said and how unhelpful they were whilst the claim was going through. The guy was very appologetic but could only get the quote down to £310

Have since been on two of the price compare sites (a meerkat like site was waste of time). and found more than could do it slightly cheaper.

Now gpone to MoreThan's website and have got it even cheaper, just awaiting a confirmation as it doesnt allow me to tell them i hold an Advance driving test and member of IAM, but so far have managed to shave nearly £100 off of directlines quote.

Pays to shop around, just awaiting now for the IAM's insurance division to get back to me with their quote as they reckon they can save 93% of its members money.

93% do not shop around is my guess :D

If everyone shopped around at renewal time insurance companies would stop putting up renewal quotes. As it is they expect people to pay up without question - most do and it makes them lots of money. You'll probably never earn so much money per hour than you will with what you'd save shopping around for insurance (unless you're a footballer).

SMS have you got any contact details for the IAM insurance people?

When I renewed in February I told my current brokers about my IAM and they said it made no difference to my insurance. Also tried Brentacre I believe it was who put me with the same insurers my current brokers have me with, on a dedicated "IAM members" plan, and guess what, the price was still the same!!!

More Than were the cheapest for my Octy vRS insurance this year around - saving just over £100 on the renewal price from Swinton.

With More Than I was also able to get the excess down, so I'm on a £100 (£50 compulsory, £50).

This too is a fair bit lower than the excess I was seeing at other insurers.

~@chicken eyebrow, i have left my IAM mag at work ill get it tomorrow night, but in all fairness when i used the IAM on insurance quotes it only made about £20 difference.

@stoofa more than have been good to swmbo's mum they were the ones who's client hit her car and they went out there way to ensure she had a vehicle and was ok etc whilist her insurers didnt seem to give a damm. think my excess is £150 which i think is less than direct crime.

I've just struggled with insurance for my 17 year old learner daughters car.

I got 3 different quotes on-line with the same company ( quinn direct ) and as they were the cheapest by far I rang them up to ask why the prices they quoted differed by over 300gbp ( they are an Irish company) with exactly the same details entered with differing search engines.

Nobody seems to know, but after haggling with them, they beat their own quote by, wait for it.....300gbp.

I'm totally confused, but quite happy, that I've managed to insure Katie for less than 800gbp for her first car.

Can anybody give me a pound sign for my keyboard? It's gone awol, and changed the position of other symbols as well...... I should invest in a new one really.

If using windows you've probably changed the language or regional keyboard settings in control panel.

Car insurance is a dark art in my experience.....how else can a modified VW Passat (180bhp, suspension, brakes etc) cost £560 a year, full no claims......and a stock 100bhp model cost exactly the same to insure like-for-like (with one claim on the stock model policy)?

You don't even want to know what other companies were asking....

Good luck - I've always been the 7% group as my broker always comes up trumps and gets a better deal else where...

If you buying from morethan, buy though quidco website. I think cashback for car policies is £75 - 100... have a look

I ended up with Adrian Flux after 2 years with More Than, insurance was cheaper straight off and I also managed to save more by not having to pay extra for legal cover and also More Than insurance only offer 3rd party insurance abroad and charge you extra to upgrade to fully comp, AF match your cover at home i.e. fully comp.

Funnily enough my regional group IAM magazine arrived in the post last night and there was a half page advert for a specialist insurer that can save "9 out of 10" members money on their insurance. I'm going to run through a quote with them but I don't hold out much hope though, like No Waiting I think I must be the 1 out of 10 that doesn't get it cheaper

I found that quinn were the cheapest for my 18yr. old daughter on line (£700 ish) but ring around and talk to other brokers and you can get cheaper. Eventually went with Tesco £463 and included Wife and I on Seat Arosa 1.0L. Some brokers advertise that they will beat any other quote so it's worth phoning around and bargaining.

i renewed my insurance with morethan in December ,£ 230 ,comp. and last month had £68 cashback from quidco

i did try last year for a quote through one of the insurers on this site and they couldnt match what i had for my standard sport. As i dont drive abroad im not to fussed with that bit, but have been umming and erring over the legal protection as when have i actually ever used it in the 15 years ive been driving??

Mr grumpy out of interest is that insurance for katie for fully comp??

thats not bad, i can remember trying to get insurance on my rover 214si 10 years ago 990 quid 3rd party fire and theft.:o

you guys must live in nice places-car havens, insurance utopias, automobile nirvana etc. your 17 year old daughter gets quoted almost half the £800 i pay for my octy-ok its a VRS but im 36 this year a dad and never had a claim, ok again only 3yrs no claims but 6yrs claim free motoring. never even got a tug from the police...........i guess thats what living in Gunchester........sorry manchester, for you. We gotta get out of this palce if its the last thing we ever do...............

Cheap car insurance is one perk of living in Devon by the sea. 90% of the population around me is over the age of 90 I think.

Yikes paul.

I pay around that for me and SWMBO, Elegance with Factory options - 17" and sports suspension upgrade, maxidot + MFSW, curtain airbags, Tyre monitor & Xenons

SWMBO's been driving 7 years, me 15 full protected NCB. That's with Bell, NN* postcode

i know my area is low risk which helps.

My renewal is Oct, so prices could have rocketed. Being personal leased also limits who will insure - as in total or serious loss the lease firm gets the cash/a say in repairs

If not, seems a poor deal.

i have checked about things like xenons etc, as long as they were factory fitted and came with the car on the day of purchase they not interested. the only things they are interested in is engine/performance changes, body kits and non standard alloys.

Just renewed the insurance on the Spitfire today, £73.50 fully comp, £100 excess and agreed valuation. Renewal notice from the old company was £115.00
