Replacing the tailgate.

Featured Replies

A kind hearted sole has dented my VRS tailgate. However, by a bizarre twist someone about 3 miles away was selling a complete one on ebay (same colour even). After a bit of advice from a friend that suggested the electrics would be on a separate loom to the main one and there should be a simple connector between the 2 I bought it. The new tailgate has arrived but both sets of wires have simply been cut at the gap in the roof. In looking into it further I can't seen to find any point of joining on either that one or my own.

Any ideas as to whether the electrics in the boot are all on the same loom or if/where there is a connection?

Many thanks in advance.

Unplug the cable from the boot latch, wiper etc, and feed them back through the holes.

I've done this on a Golf and even with changing the glass it didn't take long.

What did the ebay ad say about the loom? I would be a bit pi$$ed to find it cut, if the ad had not mentioned it.

IME there's not a joint in the loom, so the only sane thing to do is throw away the cut section, and reuse whatever is already in the car. It's fairly standard practice for breakers to cut things out- they often remove engines/gearboxes with a gas axe....

Arh, well fair enough - not having the taken a boot off, I wasn't sure if there were any connector blocks or not.

Thanks all, I've removed the loom from the replacement tailgate and the offside pulls straight up through the holes in the top. The nearside connectors are too large but there's 2 junction boxes and these simply unplug and then equally easily pull out through the hole in the top of the tailgate. The only thing I am now mystified with is where the third brakelight connection is.
