No more than your current car. They weigh the same.

Not quite D, the ordinary Fabia is 1015/1050kg kerbweight, the Estate is 1070 and the Roomster is 1150, thats quite a difference especially for such an underpowered engine in a bulky car.

I'd say if you want any sort of performance then avoid the 1.2 unless you're quite happy in the slow lane. I've driven the 1.2 HTP Fabia Estate Mk1 and its gutless. For economy and performance the 1.4 16v would probably be better.

Its like getting the 1.4TDi 70bhp, its just not worth it, the 80bhp is far better and costs only a little bit more....

PS The above weights for the Fabia are Mk2 weights, the Mk2 is heavier than the Mk1... which rather confirms my thoughts...

A friend of mine has 1.2 Roomi, he is happy on urban use...

Just a thought, but I know at least one member has one, after a bit of digging I've found him:

Try a PM to him and get his thoughts...

Euroncap list the 1.4 Fabia as having a kerb weight of 1077 for the 2000 year onwards models, so I have my doubts about the accuracy of the figures quoted, especially as Diesel Car list the 1.9SDi Mk1 as a kerb weight of 1123 and that has 4 cyl engine as opposed to the 1.2's lighter 3 cyl.

The way I'd look at it is this, as D said if you are just pootling around town then its fine, if you want to go any distance then its underpowered... anyone remember the 1.3 Capri? Same scenario... if you can afford the higher powered one get it.

Also, the width of the Mk2 according to Parkers figures is less than the Mk1. I thought that the opposite was true

Take one for a test drive if you can find one. The 1.4 and 1.6 will be quicker, but the 1.2 has a nicer character and is more driveable engine IMO. It depends what sort of driving you will be doing I suppose.
