Hello from a new owner

Featured Replies

Hello there.

I've just got my 'new' car, a 3 yr old Octavia Elegance 2.0 Auto with under 15K miles. Bargin :) .

And, after 250 miles, so far so good  .

I'm impressed by the build quality and the equipment levels, though I'm currently embroilled in a battle of wills with the climate control. I think I'll have to admit defeat (to superior intelligence) and just leave it in Auto mode - It seems to do a good enough job.

Hopefully this will be the start of several years of trouble-free ownership.

Hi Pud,

Welcome to Briskoda :wave23d:

hello pud and welcome briskoda!!

good choice in car too

Hullo pud.

Welcome, Pud. :D

Climatronic operation can be confusing so let's see if I can help. Firstly, aircon is OFF when ECON is showing in the display, ie when you press the ECON button. You can play with just about all the buttons you like to select temperature, fan speed and air distribution. Heating and ventilation are available - but not cooling.

Next, and pretty obviously, aircon is ON when AUTO is displayed, ie when you press the AUTO button. In that mode you select the desired temperature and the Climatronic then decides what fan speed and which vents to use, varying those as it sees fit depending on inputs from various sensors inside and outside the car.

Lastly, and not so obviously, if you change the fan speed or select one or more of the airflow distribution buttons whilst in AUTO mode, the Climatronic 'drops' out of that mode and AUTO disappears from the display. However the aircon is still operating but under your control now rather than under automatic control. I normally operate aircon under manual control (as indicated by the AUTO/ECON display being blank) rather than AUTO since I like to select how much cool air I want and where it goes.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Thanks also for the info about the Climate control, I think I've got it sussed now. It was the manual aircon mode that was confusing me.

It confused my dealer too, and the Owner's Manual doesn't help either. But glad all is OK. :)
