Reset the service interval displays as follows by using the reset button

⇒ page 16, fig. 18 on the trip counter:

• Press the reset button with the ignition switched off and and hold it down.

• Switch the ignition on, release the reset button. The text Service or SERVICE

NOW appears in the display.

• Turn the button for setting the clock to the right - as a result of this the display

is reset.

Cheers got it now

EXACTLY ( sorry -no emitcon) ---seem to remember some highly qualified person on this site saying that it's

ONLY POSSIBLE WITH VAG COM :D

Relating to a possible argument i'm probably going to have with Skoda, is it possible to tell via vag-com when a service counter was reset. I think they have reset mine when I bought the car cause its not due a service till 45,000 miles (mines on variable service). The service schedule said it was serviced at 18700 miles. I bought the car with 33000 on it and its saying 6800 miles till next service. (the car has now done 38000 miles)

I thought you did when it's on variable service. The method described in the handbook is for fixed interval servicing.

That procedure doesnt work on my car(2002 Octavia TDI)!

I completely failed to understand this when I serviced my car. Press the button on the speedo when you turn on the ignition and then turn the button under the rev counter to the right. I read it several times and kept doing it wrong anyway.

I used this method to reset the service icon when I serviced the Wife's 52 plate 1.4 mpi Fabia and it worked first time.

If the car is on fixing servicing the manual should tell you what to do. However if the car is on variable servicing then vag-com (or the like), dealer or maybe a friendly AA/RAC man.

Whatever it says in the handbook worked on my 2002 Octavia TDI. I can't remember the exact formula, but it involved holding the trip counter reset whilst turning the ignition on. I have to admit I don't remember turning the clock setting switch, but I did whatever the handbook says and it worked.

Yes.

Instrument panel (Address 17), and then I think adaptation channel 41 is the number of days since it was reset. You can just read this value without resetting it.

Just noticed yours is an Octavia II, but it'll probably be the same. If not, there will be an equivalent channel to read.

Noticed Fitz323 has Octavia II

Anyone got vag-com in the Lincs area. The more I think about it the more i'm certain it was reset without being serviced. No way should it do 45000 miles with having only 1 service.

Diesels on variable servicing can do upto 30000 miles between services, or a max of 2 years. So if it's done its 45000 in less than 4 years, it could have only requested one service.

Mine does 10000 miles a year, so calls itself in after 20000 miles, but that's because it's hit the 2 year limit.

But VAG COM will tell you for certain when it was last reset.

I get the full 30k miles between services on my 2001 TDi, which equates to a service approximately once a year for me.

Cheers for the info guys, but is it 30000km or 30000miles. You see, i posted this in the Octy II forum and they say 18000 ish miles max for the PD engine.

Pretty sure it's miles - well actually 50000km, which is about 30000 miles. Don't think there's any difference with PD or not - think that applies to all diesels. Petrol engines are 30000km, which is just under 20000 miles - perhaps that's what they were thinking of on the Octy II forum.

My info is based on Octy I, though, so Octy II could be different...

yea maybe thats what they are thinking, i'll just nip over to clarify.:)

Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure all my info is from the service book that came with my car (the one that gets stamped when it gets a service). I guess the service book that came with your car will probably explain what the deal is for the Octy II.

It'll probably take a while to find the right page, but I'm pretty sure the info was in there somewhere for mine.

I've just found SKODA's variable servicing and long life oil booklet. It is upto 30000 miles or 24 months. :)

Hi all,

I`ve read all posts on this thread as I`ve a query about service interval reset.

Just had my Octavia 1.8 TFSI serviced ie 2nd year on fixed service.

When I checked the service interval display after the service it displays "Service now".I`ve been through resetting procedure as per Owners manual and Info on this thread, still says "Service now".Took it back to dealer who ran his vehicle system tester again this showed reset to "0" miles. They could not advise me why my display still shows "Service Now". Does anyone know if this is a correct message after being reset.I do understand that if the Service Interval computer had not been reset then it would be warning me that service was required but it doesn`t. Seems a strange message to display after a service.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.
