Front spring gone is it driveable?

Featured Replies

Typical no problems for months until today, the day i go on my hols:mad:

Pulled out of the drive today and heard a clunk. I thought hmm i've been cleaning my car maybe brakes stuck on the discs, also checked front suspension spring looked ok. About a mile down the road and a louder ching and what sounded like something flying out. A quick inspection revealed the prob, broken nearside front spring .

So i've got a 200 mile round trip to the airport, i presume it will be ok but confirmation would be good.

Cheers chaps

Typical isn't it, my one went 2 days before my hols. I drove my one with it broken and other than the ride seeming to be a bit more crashy and a *bong* when turning full lock it was fine.

I did jack the car up to make sure everything was still roughly where it should be (ie not about to go through a tyre or something) and saw that all was well. I'd suggest having a look before hand to put your mind at rest but if the broken bit has already parted company I should think you'll be ok :)

Cheers had a look and the top of the spring has snapped, no other problems other than a bit of a twang over bumps. So some new springs to find then

Time for coilovers......???

Dunno about coilovers, they aren't cheap.

what about springs, which should i go for oem or are there any better which keep the same ride height?

H&R springs if you want to keep around the same ride height,as they will drop the car 20mm max.

I have a full standard set up if you want to keep cost down or a set of KW v'2 for sale as well.

I seem to collect suspension kits.

Mine went not so long ago, turns out the body was the only thing still holding the spring up, i would'nt reccomend driving that far, could be very dangerous.

It's definitly holding the body up as it's broke at the top.

Jay i think you should give a fellow octy owner a very very good price on those V2's, they will only clutter your house up :D.

i would not drive it at all, could be the next headline if doing a 200mile round trip to the airport.

use your breakdown cover and explain that you need to get to the airpor and they may get you a coutesy car. either way a taxi is cheaper than a motorway smash, sorry to sound like a harbinger of doom but its bloody dangerous.

i second that if its broken fix it , sure you could get a garage to fit one with in a few hour s or a diy mechanic could do it as it not a hard job i did all 4 of mine in just over 2 hours , it aint worth putting yourself and family at risk ?
