ECU broken!!!

Why would he turn up - civil case, he was always going to lose, right or wrong, because he can't prove a negative. The fault happened soon after he remapped it, it is therefore possible he caused the fault - that is sufficient in a civil case, and it is impossible for him to prove he didn't cause it. If it were a criminal case, he would turn up, utter a few words of denial and get off because the case would not be proven - that's the difference. So it was a waste of a day for him, or perhaps he felt intimidated, who knows? Perhaps he's just decided to wait it out and see if the OP attempts to reclaim his dosh.

  • This is your Octavia we're talking about? They shouldn't have opened your ECU or removed anything.

  • If they have had the ECU apart it sounds like either that's their way of remapping (taking the flash chip out and using a programmer to reprogram the chip) or perhaps they tried to bench flash it and

Have I done something to upset you?

Result.

Not sure your win, but send in the bailiffs!

Go get them....

Okay, an update; for all those wwho are still reading this (or watching it with baited breath and popcorn)

I won the court case. (Well, CT never bothered responding to the court after initially denying liability) so the court found in my favour and ordered them to pay up for my losses, plus court costs.

However, CT have failed to pay me to date (since August) so I now have to decide whether to just write it off, or throw even more money at it is the form of bailiffs, earnings orders etc...

This British court system is a joke really isn't it?

Suffice to say I won't be sending anything the THEM for mapping again... lol

Result, and while it's only now I've seen this, don't forget if they don't pay a debt to you, then you could file an application to have the company wound up as they have not paid a debt to yourself.

Just if you wanted to be really evil :)

Only just saw your reply.

I was replying to the comment above by CJB.

All I have stated is a matter of fact as to the operation of civil law and it's weaknesses - nothing was PROVEN by you winning the judgement, but you did get satisfaction.

I DID congratulate you on seeing it through - kind of wish I didn't now!

Wow, only just saw this thread after all this time, and it was only due to another forum!

Did you get your money in the end?

interesting, doubt ill be remapping my car..

dont be put off remapping your car, if you ask Mr Catbiscuit I am sure he will confirm that the remap he ended up with on a new ECU is fine. The lesson learned from this whole thing was more to do with Customer Service provided by the mapper.

Hi

All it's not completely true about checksum errors , a car can start once and then after it won't start and it could be down to a checksum error ...! I know as I have had this issue myself with a Leon cupra 180 . The car start after flashing it then once I tried to start it again nothing even wouldnt Id the Ecu numbers , had to flash from boot mode with a differant file with no checksum errors it was fine :-)
