  • This is your Octavia we're talking about? They shouldn't have opened your ECU or removed anything.

  • If they have had the ECU apart it sounds like either that's their way of remapping (taking the flash chip out and using a programmer to reprogram the chip) or perhaps they tried to bench flash it and

You MUST work for Custom

Don't forget the main chain of events:

1. The car was working fine

2. Custom Tuning remapped the ECU

3. The ECU died

What would you have done in this situation Kandy?

Agreed. Regardless of the chain of events, Gary's posts alone would stop me from using them and would cause me to strongly advise anyone I know not to use them too.

For the record I have no connection with anybody involved.

I do have a great deal of experience in dispute resolution and thus I am capable of assessing situations impartially and unemotionally.

Anybody that thinks the email complaint was likely to get a cooperative response understands nothing about human nature (that's not to say it wouldn't have been resolved properly by a more professional company - hence my earlier comment about tailoring your approach according to who you are dealing with).

I have sympathy for both parties, but neither have helped themselves.

out of interst do you have a map on your car??? (not the one you read!!!)

p.s the above is this not how a lot of larger organisation now have there first line of complaint ????? if you look at most complaint procedure in large companys it states that it must be put in writing or email!!!!

i think the whole point of this is the lack of customer support and that is why most people have thrown darts at ct... so i have no sympathy with ct as he made a rod for his own back and could have made the whole thing better and possibly generated more buisness as we would have seen some great customer care but we didnt...

so put your ct tshirt back on and go and have a brew

Are you Vulcan?

Am I alone in thinking GaryCT's silence speaks volumes?

Give him some working days to digest it and also he may have been told not to comment any further, so while you can read something into it, it may not be exactly what you think :)

After reading this topic, CT would be the last place on earth I would have my car re mapped.

Am I alone in thinking GaryCT's silence speaks volumes?

What silence  We are still waiting for our copy of the report and until then we will just let you do all the talking. ;)

If this post keeps getting this much interest it will give the "three word thread" a run for its money :D

You may have a great deal of experience, however, as much experience as you have, your assessment of this situation is likely to be influenced by other similar situations you ma have assessed, whether it be 1% influence or 100% influence. We all strive to be as objective as possible, however, unfortunately (or should that be fortunately) some sense of subjectivity plays a role.

GA-REEE! GA-REEE! GA-REEE!

Sorry, I lost it for a second there and thought I was on the Gary Springer Show :o

...shame my post at #90 got moderated! We could have slated Gary Springer on his (his staffs?!) driving techniques too! ;)

What did they moderate? Send a PM :D

Im not particulaly sideing with either johnnycatbiscuit or Gary on what caused the ecu failure.

What shocked me the most, was the unprofessional manner in which Gary responded.

I could understand being upset if i thought my goods were up to acceptable standards. But everyones opinion on if a product they have produced/bought would be different anyway.

But personally i would have taken into consideration the teething problems so to speak. Then try and work around a compromise between myself and the customer.

Reading this thread certainly would put me off purchasing a map from Custom Tuning (if i was to purchase one at all)

Could I make the observation that in all 11 pages of this thread, Mr Catbiscuit is the only person with a complaint about CT. His complaint may well be justified, but surely if CT were as bad as some people are implying, more people with grievances or bad experiences would have turned up? I have no allegiance to anyone, and running a non-turbo 1.8 means remaps are an irrelevance to me.

that is not the point. It does not matter if Gary has had lots of a few complaints, its the fact if I, the customer DO have an issue, then look at the standard of aftercare that you would recieve!

I am sure many of his customers have a map that they are happy with, but for those who get bitten, they get bitten bad!

My name is not Mr Catbiscuit. I am jonnycatbiscuit, or John/Johnny (or even JCB) but not Mr Catbiscuit. I didn't go to Lovedoctor school for 5 years to be called "Mr" thank you very much.

Probably, but it wouldn't be fair of me to make comment about it on here just now, and I wouldn't expect Gary to either, really. (right Gary?)

I'm sure one of us will post up the final outcome for you all...

We all wait patiently

This is perhaps the most interesting thread I've read on any forum (oh, except the 'Nazi bunker in my backgarden' on Pistonheads).

But I think it's time for both parties to cut their losses and call it a day. Mr. Catbiscuits had a bad experience and then was pretty much dismissed due to a perfectly reasonable email detailing his problem. Neither party is going to come out ontop but CT certainly has more to lose.

Based on the replies, there is no way in hell I would consider using CT and if anyone was considering using them then I would encourage them not to.

But seriously, JCB, you will not get any money back or an apology or anything from CT.

And CT, the more you reply, the worse you look. Just Stop it. Now.

FWIW, If the OP has a report from an qualified expert that states the cause of the problem etc and the vendor (CT in this case) can not prove this to be untrue, then on the balance of probability, the vendor could get a court judgement against them.

This could include a payment and if it did and the vendor does not comply with the court order then the aggrieved party can IIRC apply for a winding up order against the company that owes the debt.

This has no bearing on who is or isn't correct, and isn't stating what will happen, just my recollection of how an aggrieved customer can get money from a vendor should things go sour. Hopefully things would be settled to a level of satisfaction before this.
