  • This is your Octavia we're talking about? They shouldn't have opened your ECU or removed anything.

  • If they have had the ECU apart it sounds like either that's their way of remapping (taking the flash chip out and using a programmer to reprogram the chip) or perhaps they tried to bench flash it and

There you go you see basil "OUR MATE" of course we are to blame, he's your mate and right or wrong you will stand by him whatever the facts may be, just as i would.

I don't know if Basil & JCB are friends, or have met, but quite honestly it makes no odds.

I've not met either of them- I have only met 3 people form this forum, and then only briefly.

I've formed my own opinion from the contents of the thread- I hardly know JCB or you at all, and to be honest, that opinion will not change regardless of whether JCB knackered the ECU himself, ECU Evolutions did it, or CT did it- or even if it just failed, which is a (remote) possibility.

The key here is professionalism and customer service. We all know customers are not always right, but it's how you handle it.

Just a quick one about the PM's. Surely sending the report out in PM's is pretty much the same as posting it on here? I would strongly advise against sending it out until you have taken any/all legal action that you plan to take. (Sorry all).

I agree. Probably best to get the legalities sorted beforehand.

You might stand by your mates right or wrong but if a mate of mine is wrong I will tell him and advise in any way I can rather than letting a MATE hear what he wants to hear or do something which may be detrimental to themselves.

Despite this thread we have seen absolutely no change in the ammount of business we are getting, we are as busy as ever. I think this is because people looking in on this thread can see that all we have here is unsubstantiated claims of wrongdoing. Unless you can show us any different JCB....???? Add me to the P.M list

I somehow find this extremely hard to believe. Unless you had minimal business in the first place, and then yeah no change is understandable. We don't see any one posting glowing reports on this thread to suggest this, or anywhere else on the internet for that matter. As said before I bet you loose more than it would have to refund the OP. There has been people posting saying they are considering maps and you aren't in the equation, so from where i am that's loosing business.

Who are you to say that i have a low opinion of customers intelligence, strangely enough it doesnt mention in your profile that you are a mind reader but if you are please forgive me

In the same sentence you are criticising someones opinion that you have a low opinion of someones intelligence then coming back with a sarcastic comment like that:rolleyes:.

I also agree, I would like to know the outcome, I suppose either way we'll find out.

Even something as simple as me saying i would stand by a friend has to be pulled apart and yet again ive said the wrong thing... Can i do or say anything right  Probably not !!!

Thanks folks, for all your support. Let's just say that the report found a checksum error in the ECU which wasn't there before it was flashed and leave it at that for now.

By the way, the only person I've ever met or even spoken to on this forum (apart from Gary) is vrStu...

You squirted water from your rear wash jet over me about 15 years ago in Cardiff :rofl::rofl:

I don't think that really matters here though does it.

Or is that why your car broke down :D:D

Can I nominate this thread as a customer services how not to sticky ;)

I've never had the pleasure of meeting with JCB - only communication ever was a PM today with an interesting report. So much for the conspiracy theory....

I have refrained jumping into this thread as the "facts" from both sides are biased from each storyteller, thus I am in no position at all, like most others on here (;)) to be giving an accurate opinion.

BUT - the quote I have highlighted sums up for me your whole attitude.

You are "as busy as ever" "despite this thread". Now think about that for a moment......

Had this thread been all positive about you and the business with this many views and this much interest, you would quite possibly be 'busier' than ever, and reaping the rewards right now in thesed dark economic times.

Whatever the eventual outcome, be it your fault or not as the case may be, possibly take a deep breath and count to 10 before you post anything in the future, should anything like this happen again, that so many readers could take as bad customer care, bad service etc. I'm sure from reading this thread through that's the impression taken by anyone that reads it.

I'm just an average guy who has spent quite a lot on tuning, had a couple of bad remaps, some bad service myself in the past, as have a lot of members on here. So as an average guy, my opinion - as open minded as I am - would be to stay clear of you for any future tuning requirements. Thats based purely on the impression you have given me in this thread.

I'm not having a go, or siding with anybody, I just thought I would pass on my advice for what its worth.

As others have said - it's not the initial problem that gives companies like yours a bad name, but the after care.If I were in your position I would be inclined to keep personal opinions to yourself in the future and maybe think harder how you "voice" your defense in public.

To JCB - I am far from being a legal expert, but since this is in the public domain and anyone can view it, I dont think any court action could be seen as unbiased?

Whatever - I hope it all gets resolved soon :)

Different century lol

I'll let you off.

I'll let this lie now :D:D:D

can i have a PM too please?

Count me in for the PM please

This thread wouldn't affect my decision to buy or not from this co., because it is obviously just a one-off problem and the OP kicked off with the 'attitude' not the company - you need to think carefully before you fire off a 'strong' complaint and start posting all over the internet - because you undermine what was possibly a valid complaint.

Having said that - who the hell would buy a 'cheap' postal remap blind?

JCB you have a PM!

I would, from ECU evolutions? :D

i dont think he had an attitude mate just a little annoyed with certain people.

some cheap maps are not that bad mate i seen some very dodgy expensive maps......

what map do you run on your car ????????

Yep i think there is one positive outcome from this thread Ecu Evolution will get more business.

Having said that - who the hell would buy a 'cheap' postal remap blind?

That was my view.

As each engine would run differently due to fuel and part wear etc, plucking numbers out of the air or copying another cars figures will surely lead to running issues that the ECU cannot compensate for IMO.

It's why if I was going to get a remap, I'd have a rolling road/dyno session to verify the map figures and use a trusted specialist for Skoda/VAG.

As others have said - it's not the initial problem that gives companies like yours a bad name, but the after care.

I agree. I had a remap in December with Chipboost.com. The map wasn't to my liking and I even posted a couple of things on here to say so. However, to the credit of James who runs the company, he was a true gentleman and sorted a further two maps until I was happy. Even though he had followed my discussions on here, he never failed to be anything other than a true professional.

His after care was above and beyond what I expected and for that reason I wouldn't fail to recommend him and his maps.

I agree with you there he's a nice bloke :)

Well I for one will be interested in seeing how this all unfolds.

I assume an apology and full retraction will be forthcoming from the side that loses ;)

This whole post has been about "a 'cheap' postal remap" so obviously the OP, as for the "blind" bit, is that not what this forum is about? like minded people "sharing" their experiences and industry "Professionals" giving advice (for Free I might add - cheers to Lummox and the others on here )

I "blindly" spent four months reading through various forums and posting questions before opting to have "a 'cheap' postal remap" from ECU Evolutions (another thanks for Chris&Co ) and whilst My car didnt die a death in the middle of Cardiff it did have problems. As the car had a few hardware issues (breather pipes etc.) I spoke to Chris on the phone, by email and even through this forum, he was really helpful in trying to isolate the problems before getting the car in for map tweaking. considering that I had the map as part of the Christmas special offer for £99 the level of after care service that I got was outstanding and I am very happy with the performance and drivablility of the car so would gladly recommend their services to anyone who was considering a remap (at any price!)

So from my "Experience" Cheap is not always bad! (for examples of "bad" please read through the rest of the post and make up your own mind) and "Customer Service" is just that, providing a customer with service (not getting into a mud slinging match! as we all know the saying "MUD STICKS")

please note:

the content of this post is the opinion of the poster and I offer no guarantee implied or otherwise for the accuracy of the jumble of words prior to this note :D

You MUST work for Custom

As I understand it, JCB posted on here to get some answers from people who know about these things as he was getting nothing from CT. Only after he was armed with a bit of knowledge did he email CT back with, let's face it, a fairly reasonable complaint considering he and his family were left stranded, and CT had basically washed its hands of any responsibility.

Regardless of the wisdom of buying a postal remap (and I'm sure CT would say postal remaps are fine), CT offered a service which apparently didn't deliver, and then took offence at the wording of a complaint by a disgruntled customer who felt let down.

The truth will out (and in some ways, it already has with the ECU Evolutions report), but what did you really expect JCB to do under the circumstances? Just accept CT's argument that it definitely wasn't its remap that caused the problem, and walk away? I wouldn't have done, especially as they were so sensitive and were unwilling to help a stranded customer.

Don't forget the main chain of events:

1. The car was working fine

2. Custom Tuning remapped the ECU

3. The ECU died

What would you have done in this situation Kandy?
