Removing wax?

Featured Replies

Was wondering of the best way to do this? Say I wanted to have a go at re-polishing my car? That layer of wax is going to have to be taken off. Is it best to let the clay do this, or is there a more subtle way of doing it? Some time I need to practise polishing, and the mongrel is going to be the practise model.....

Now I suspect thst the Ladies do not frequent this part of the site - else there would be some comments - Mrs V saw this -hers was "excess wax - lie back and take it like a man " -don't forget waxing to a lady means removing HAIR:eek::eek::eek::eek:---RUN IF SUGGESTED -it HURTS.(I did queston this fact some years ago to be given a lesson -short to say shaving is nicer )

Washing up liquid (quite strong mix) in a bucket of hot water will remove it quickly

Rinse off well and do it again with plain warm water.

Then clay the car if you need to..I never have..then wash again and rinse

You should now have a squeeky finish!!:)

Does snow foam remove wax?

At high concentrate it almost certainly does

How easily does car shampoo remove it? I assume the emphasis is on the temperature of the water, and not so much what is in it? :)

No..Most car shampoos wont remove all the wax in one go.

Try washing up liquid...It really works...Honest!

So if I were to admit that on the odd occasion I used to wash the car with just warm water and fairy lipsquid, that would be bad, right? :) Religous use of car shampoo now though - prob need a 2nd bucket though. ;)

I beleive it's all down to the PH of the shampoo. Ideally you want PH nuetral shampoo/snow foam so it doesn't remove the wax. So for the opposite you want something higher so it eats away the wax. Believe fairy liquid is classed as high.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

got told from the guys hat i bought mine from that its wax friendly.

I use a pre waxer, which removes the wax before you reapply. Its a little hard work though.

Yeah I use valet pro which is ph nuetral so safe for was and sealant.

Well, I think I have confirmed that the rather heavy dilution of turtle wax shampoo used at Castle Combe is a good wax stripper. I am fairly sure most panels are now wax free, which is good as I plan to do a full polishing up on the next dry weekend. Just not sure I will use this turtle wax shampoo again, or not a strong mix at least.

must admit since i started washing the car with cold to luke warm water the wax seems to stay on the car better.
