Best Antivirus (not free)

Featured Replies

Well after my run in with some rather annoying malware that AVG Free 8.5 completely missed, i am starting to think i should pay for something better!

I know eset NOD32 is supposed to be good, and people have recommended kaspersky. Does anyone have any other suggestions or good experiences?

I use NOD32 and I'm really happy with it. It seems to run a lot faster than AVG ever did and so far has just sat in the background keeping my computer safe! I'm running the Smart Security version so it's a firewall and a few other bits and pieces too. Interestingly though it would appear that its blocked 0 attacks, or at least that's what it's telling me! I know the email scanner has got rid of a few nasties though!

I have just ditched AVG, as it had become very bloated & slowed the machine down, can not recommend a pay one, but i believe they are all much of a muchness - only those that release quick updates to new viruses are worth paying for.

I had Kapersky but it kept losing updates, at one point it even managed to delete its own files??

Hi apinner,

I am now using free version of AVAST here. I am not having any problems as I am also having the Windows defender and the spybot for my XP widows PC.

No problem has been with this so far since the last February.

Avast Pro :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

And I'm a very heavy comp user :o

Never had any issues with Mcafee.

For £20, I have total protection for 4 PC's.

Agree also i have Mcafee on my laptop and is great.Got Norton 2009 on my home pc and this is :thumbdwn:

Antivirus will very often not pick up spyware.

Avast + Asquared could give you the cover you need for nowt.

I'd add Spyware blaster too.

linux :P

avira antivirus is free and works well on windows 7. it does have an enhanced av and antimalware suite for peanuts too. it has been scoring very well on recent magazine tests.

i have avira free on my win 7 rig and eset nod32 on everything else (had some eset issues with win 7, but i believe they are now fixed)

Most of the big boys now do this as standard ;)

I too have AVG on my desktop and whilst it's good basic protection it's not the best ( or maybe it's the sites I'm visiting ) Kapersky is on my laptop and has been bulletproof but would also recommend seperate spyware protection - Spybot is good. See PC Pro for the security suite reviews. PC Pro: Products Search

AVG used to be the bogs dollocks because it wasn't mainstream. Now everyone knows about it and uses the free edition it has become worthwhile for virus developers to specifically work around AVGs strengths.

Security through obscurity > * ;)

I use Norman (note- Not Norton) It has performed very well and after the first year, renual was just 40 quid for 3 years.

We're jsut about to switch to Kaspersky at work (from Mcafee), and it seems very good, and less of a resource hog.

Don't know how many PC's they'll cover ,but HSBC are giving on line customers free McAfee(for a year) -someone here mentioned Barclays, and I know that Nat West/Rbs are offering free spyware - so could be possible that online banking sites are giving free AV/etc .
