Speedo MPH - Its more accurate than I thought

Featured Replies

No, my speedo is disappointingly inaccurate - see this thread. I am going to Yorkshire this coming weekend and will try and carry out a detailed check of speedo accuracy by logging a range of GPS readings - subject to marital cooperation! I will also have a go at using the distance markers on motorways plus a stopwatch for a more accurate check. Come to think of it, there are some hi vis distance markers locally which the traffic police use to check their speedos. Watch this space.........

Strange that equivalent cars should vary so much. Have you tried using the tacho as a guide.

Hang on, didn't someone say that their GPS readings were out as well ?

How do you get Ch16 on the Climate control??

Didn't know it had channels (does it get Sky?).

Bringing this thread back on topic, I did some GPS testing this evening with a friend's equipment and found that the above calculations, resulting in the speedo being some 5% off, are absolutely spot-on. GPS measurements lead to 5% as well.

Yep, did the GPS test when I first got mine, speedo reads 4 - 5 mph too high between indicated 60 and 80mph. Not particularly scientific, but seems to prove those with calculators are correct.

Thanks for that.

About to change my Elegance 2.0 for an Elegance TDI on saturday so will have a look and see if there is much difference between the two speedos.
