Advice needed re Skoda Sport 130L

Featured Replies

My late husband owned an E Reg (1988) white Skoda Sport 130L which sadly is rusting away under trees. It has not been driven for some years. Do you think it's worth advertising it or should I just send it to the scrapyard? I cannot open the doors or boot (siezed with rust) I started to clean the bodywork (rear) but lost energy and enthusiasm!

I am in Somerset if anyone wants to take a look.

Many thanks.

You may get some interest here. Not sure I'd expect it to sell for big bucks, but better than being scrapped anyway. Also try www.SKODA-FORUM.com™ - The International Skoda Community Forum if you haven't already. To advertise here you need to be a freedom member (£12 a year) though I won't make any complaints (but this thread may be unexpectedly deleted by mods.)

Someone may even want it just for the alloys and body kit and any other spare bits on it (if the shell is too rusty to save).

Jane

I would let someone take it away for free as long as they promise to give it a good home :)

Tom

The shell is probably too rusty to save, but surely someone could use some parts?

:eek:PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't scrap this very rare car! No car is too rotten to save given time and enthusiasm. Your car isn't just an old banger in the way an old Mondeo or suchlike is, you're dealing with a car that has genuine character and history which really does need saving!

I wouldn't consider the original post to be an advert TBH, more of a plea for advise.

Where abouts are you ? If you are neer to me i would take it of you and give it a good home, next to my estelle

Daverapid - when will you be collecting it?! Seriously, though, thanks for advice. I don't want to scrap it, as much for the memory of my hubby as anything else as he loved this car.

And no, it was not an advert, just needed some thoughts from the experts on whether it was worth saving or not.

Thanks all

Jane

rigsby - I'm in Somerset - not so near!

Thats a pitty, Im in the process of converting an estelle into a roadster, and would love to have had another project in waiting. It would gee me up to getting it done

Hi Jane,

I would suggest that you tread very carefully regarding this. There are a lot of parts on there that would be ripped off the car even though you could be told that the car would go to a good home.

I would suspect the sills would be in a bad way but nothing is too far gone to repair i know been there done it.

I can happpily pop down and take a look. email me on [email protected]

I know the body looks rough, but AFAICS that's mostly lichen, and would wash off.

Rigsby- if you really want it go and get it, doubt you will get a sport turning up on your door step.

That certainly doesn't look beyond saving... a 130Sport definatly deserves rescueing as well...

Annoyingly I was in Somerset the other week. I'll be back down that way again in May if anyone did want me to take a look for them.

If possible this old girl ought to be saved I must agree. I wish I could myself, but it is beyond my means. :(

Come on someone do the rigt thing and save it. If I was technically minded i would. It would be a travesty to see this scrapped

We're working on it !!

One of the south coast guys might be interested.

Come on then guys - start bidding! (probably get my wrists slapped for that!)

I really would like her to go to a good home and be restored to former glory.

Does sound like an ad rather than a call for advice all of a sudden???

We're working on it !!

working on keeping it in the country too I hope? ;)

I really, really hope it gets saved. I'd suggest checking with one of three people to post in this thread, namely DaveRapid, Skofast or Skudman. between them they will know pretty much every genuine restoring-minded Skoda fan in England or CZ, where the likely potential buyers live. That way you can ensure it isn't stripped of bits and scrapped. There are just a handful of them left; adding another one is a big smile moment for a few of us

:D

Anyone shown any interest in this or is it too rotten/expensive? Hope someone plucks up the courage even though the OP is a bit cheeky asking for bids.

Why cheeky? An offer had already been received. Too rotten? No such thing if you are determined, experienced and a serious collector.

Another outbreak of 'oh someone must save this rare example' then nothing.

Expensive? You work out how much it must have cost the Czech guys who collected on a 2000 mile round-trip.....and they paid a very fair price for it as well. The only interested party from UK didn't turn up to the arranged viewing.

It has gone 'home' via the Saturday Doksy meeting, along with a 120 Garde LDD cabrio

I don't think It is fair to say that I am just saying someone must save it and then not do anything. I would have had it myself but lack the necessary skill.

Cheeky: I got the initial impression that the car was "free to a good home" but then bid were invited. No problem with that but surprised the site admin didn't spot it;)

Rotten:Well looks in a bad way but if you have the knowledge then anything is possible:thumbup: Just wanted an update in all fairness and glad some guys travelled all the way from CR to pick it up. What did they pay if you don't mind my asking???

VERY HAPPY IT HAS FOUND A GOOD HOME THOUGH!!. I bet these cars are quite prized back home. Those guys must be dedicated.

Not for me to say really, but let's put it this way, more than the return ferry Cal-Dov-Cal with Transit and 2-car trailer and a tank full of diesel.

Don't know why you thought the 'must be saved' comment was aimed specifically at you, since several people said something similar. The old Skud scene has,it seems, absorbed just about as many rescue examples as it can. Forums would announce 'another one saved' then a few months later a previous one that fell to the bottom of the list would get scrapped with somewhat less publicity.

Fortunately in this case, the good lady opted to offer the car to enthusiasts but not UK ones. Czechs go crazy over the correct Richard Grant and Autoplas Sport body add-ons, whether these guys were crazy to opt for full restoration remains to be seen !
