Digital SLR Battery Figures

Hi All

Rather than buying a new battery grip for our Canon 1000D (£130) my other half decided it was easier to buy and charge 2 new batteries (£15), and store them in the bag in case the original dies while in use.

They have arrived today but are rated at 1200mAh rather than the OEM which is 1080mAh.

Are the new ones better or worse??!!

Very confused as "some designed" for purpose AA's purchased for a instant digi cam are rated at 2500mAh.

Help!!

They should just last a little longer in camera before needing a recharge. I have found that buying cheap does not always pay off. I tend to go for the OEM batteries with my SLR's

My Pentax K10d on OEM batteries will easily last the day around 800 shots.

I've taken 900+ photos in a day with my Nikon SLR and an OEM battery and still had charge left; that's without looking through / deleting photos in-camera though (which I hardly ever do).

Well 450 pictures today, and lots of reviewing and battery hasn't moved from fully charged. Does seem to hold it's charge pretty well, I guess its cause I use the nikon quite a lot. I hear it's best to keep your batteries exercised. In answer to your question, the 2500mAh provide more current quicker

Not sure how long the battery lasts after it's been fully charged, but I guess if you keep the spare topped up and use it then your tactic will be fine. Only need to charge mine about once a month.

Well a morning at the Combe meet then afternoon at Thruxton and then all day sunday at Thruxton.

OEM Canon battery managed about 400 pics before the camera did its pre-repair trick of just stopping without warning. Battery replaced with one of the eBay jobs and the rest of the day of problem free and resulted in another 900 pictures!
