Both sides need doing, NS is worse than the other. Any thoughts on a reasonable approximate cost for getting it welded up?

time to bin it i reckon

Not what I wanted to hear, but inside I know you're right . Will probably get a quote though and consider it. Only annoying thing is I don't have a driveway to SORN it and strip it down (and I'd hate to ask anyone if I could use theirs lol.)

i would be a lot easier to do with the front wings removed, it might not cost all that much to do, maybe £50 or so, but once it's started rotting you will find more and more bits that need doing

I'm having Kermit patched up and welded at the moment, it doesn't cost that much.

Here's what's being done:

Whole new front panel fitted (supplied by me)

Inner wing straightened and chassis arm

Patching inner wings and around suspension turrets.

Strengthening between bulkhead and inner wings

New wings fitted (supplied by me)

Whole lot sprayed including bonnet.

£350

time to bin it i reckon

:eek:Bin a Skoda??? How dare you!! ;)

Do you know a mate that can weld? Failing that I would go to a garage that will give you a fixed quote rather than charge by the hour. Welding nearly always takes longer than you expect.

I know I hate swearing as well Dave

MOT test centre gave me the numbers of two people who they use for welding. One of them does it on a weekend at their house sort of thing (normal job during the week). Just called him and when I mentioned you can just about see the petrol vapour canister he said that wasn't good. Lol. But he should be able to take a look tomorrow then do it saturday if the price is right.

Only other thing I need is the small bit of vacuum hose for the brake servo.

I always think that when you start patching a car up then its probably the last MOT...

Saying that though if you like the car theres no reason not to keep on top of it. :)

Nah, it's the beginning of a new era! Keep the oldens on the road!;)

Sad news. I think Tom goes a bit far when saying it's the last MOT if you start patching, but he's definitely right when he says that once you start patching due to corrosion there's no return. There will most likely be more welding needed the next MOT, and the next.

Here in south Sweden it's the sills - winter climate is disastrous for them. I've had cars where not a single inch of the original sill remained, a few inches replaced every year...

But if you can find someone who knows how to use a MIG welding kit and doesn't charge you heavily, if you don't mind that the finish of the bodywork won't be the same, and if your Favorit is in good shape otherwise, why not?

And if you fix it you'll get at least a year during which you can be on the lookout for a really good replacement car for a good price - much nicer than desperately having to chase one down when you're stuck with a total and complete wreck.

That is a tidy white Favorit!!!

someones coming to pick up my Felicia on the weekend. Be sad to see her go, but a lot better for me than breaking her on the drive. Don't know what the person has planned for her though.

It all depends on your mindset. If you've spent a fair bit on the ca raldready then you could prob "invest" on the welding.

But if you forsee further issues coming up then it might be best getting another and scavenging.

For me it was the head gasket going and not really having the money to fix it back.

My sisters micra needed welding on the underbody. as a hole had rusted through. cost about £40 back in 2008.

Been given a price of £150 :( It's a difficult one. Have put quite a bit of money and time into it, but £150 could be £150 towards another car, then again there's no guarantees that one doesn't need anything doing to it. But £150 would hopefully get me one more years motoring.

Thats not too bad a price.

A good weld should hold for a good few years.

My Uncle has offered to have a look. He's the sort into lots of DIY mechanics on his driveway but not sure what sort of skills he has and if he has a mig. Plus he's the busy sort, busy with work, and cars in pieces on his driveway.

Decided to try take the initiative to try get somewhere myself, as my uncle offered to do the welding if I can get the wings off and grind it down in advance, but boy is this not fun. Starting to think much more towards scrapping unfortunately. I'm beginning to see the beauty of wheel arch liners in more modern cars. Stops all the mud and salt and crap getting up there causing rot.

Yeah cleaning under the arches is not fun!!!!

Speaking of which mine needs a good wash. I still havent had it valeted and I need to fix the parcel shelf!!!

Should keep me busy!!! :D

I would say don't scrap her but she's your car. I made the curtain call on my Felicia when the head gasket blew. She got carted off this morning.

Passed on some details from someone who wanted the locks.

Progress. Of sorts...

Just given mine and the Passst a good wash and wax.

The arch liners on the Passat were quite filthy!!

The Favorit does need a good cleaning under the wheelarches. Gonna get the hosepipe linked and give the arches a good rinsing.

If those ridges either side in the engine bay are rotting, I would say there's a fair chance what has happened to mine is quietly going on in the inner wing.

Hmm I'll have to keep an eye out.

So far I've seen a few nicks, and 2 rust patches. One on the drivers door and the offside wheel arch.

Otherwise she looks pretty clean.

There's a rather tidy looking white fav on ebay at the moment, which could live on supported by bits from mine if required :D Only problem is I wouldn't be able to get to view before bidding. 1995 SKODA FAVORIT GLXIE FLAIRLINE WHITE on eBay, also, Skoda, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 27-Apr-09 19:37:45 BST)

That is a tidy Favorit - best I have seen recently.

The rust on yours anewman is probably where all of the muck has been lodged for a while and eaten into the metal work. I was forever picking muck out of there when I had my Favorit - the Felicia's weren't much better either. Good luck with getting it all sorted.

Yeah I did put a pressure washer up into the arches every so often, but not right up into the top corner where most of the rot is - although did on occasions stick my arm up and pull any muck out. Looks like possibly something for owners of fav and fel to watch out for.

That white Favorit looks like the "posh" version with centre console and alloys.

I spotted a bit I missed to clean. The run off where the front wipers connect to the body work. Ran the sponge in, but needs a good scrubbing in some places.
