New VRS - dirty smoke?

Featured Replies

Guys,

I've never owned a diesel, or a brand new car for that matter, and I've noticed that my new VRS (now on 67 miles), sometmes has the odd puff of black/grey smoke out the back which I can see roll up the back window outside while i'm driving along, is this normal for a diesel or a new car or has it got somethign wrong already?

I'm hoping it'll clear and its just some residue which was left in the tail pipe or something, maybe i'm being paranoid but that cant be right.

don't worry about it mate - it's normal when you boot it to get a blast of the black stuff - it may happen at other times but i tend to notice it when i'm looking in the rear view mirror, watching the shocked faces when they are left standing by a skoda!! :D

it gets worse if you get the car re-mapped - but i wouldn,t let that put you off (i'm waiting for the funds to do it meself)

Thanks for that, feel a lot better now :)

I just picked it up yesterday, although the mapping is tempting I just sold a 300hp Impreza as insurance and running costs were too high and I just know the map wont be the end of it so i'm going to kit it out with a nice sound install and leave it the hell alone (well, for atleast a few weeks anyway ;))

Yeah.. the PD engines in all VAG cars tend to smoke a lil bit on booting it... good way to avoid it is to be more progressive on the throttle, and try not to boot it below 2k.

Mine tends to smoke a bit when it gets heatsoaked due to the poor I/C.... pelting up the motorway being chased by a cloud of soot :D (but i do have 183bhp) :)

Yep' date=' its quite normal

You also will get quite a lot of smoke if your revs are too low and you boot it and the engine struggles. Keep the revs above 1700

LOL! thats what im talkin about

Dont worry UHF, mine is two weeks old with 345 miles, and i too notice the odd puff of black smoke from the rear, like yours smothering the rear window. I was a tad concerned but put it down to it being new etc. :)

So far I have been gentle when accelerating and have noticed very little smoke. The time when I do notice it is when I first start the engine from cold.

I find its much worse when the outside temp is over 20c

And the tailpipe not facing downwards doesnt help - when I was at JBS the PD130 Golfs were producing as much smoke, but aimed towards the floor, which wasnt half as noticeable

Like mobtob has just said, I seem to get more smoke out the back during different weathers.

The worst one I've found is damp drizzly weather - looks like i'm towing a storm cloud when I boot it.

Has got worse since the remap - but the performance out weighs the smog - Especially when you leave a BMW choking in it!!!!
