New springs but its Bouncy, Bouncy!

Featured Replies

Ok i got my new H&R springs fitted today .I've got a slight drop in ride height which is spot on what i wanted. The cornering feels better with what feels to be less body role which is great. But the car feels to have an extra bounce before settling down. Does the bouncing settle down over time or do i need uprated Dampers too?

Hi Martin, you may find they settle down. As I had them fitted to Koni FSD's they were superb on these. How many miles have your shocks down.

Like Bowders I had them fitted with FSD's and they have been great. If your old springs where very tired they probably wouldn't have anywhere near the rebound of new springs and the old shocks may be struggling to contain this.

115000 miles Mark but they were fine with the old springs. Maybe the dampers are not up to the stiffer H&R springs?

I know i've got a Mk2 Octavia, but i put the Eibach 30mm springs on.

I have notice hitting a rather large bump in the road can make the car rebound quite viciously!

Think if FSD's were a lil cheaper then id probably have them on!

Martin, the standard shocks are not up to the task & will not damp enough with uprated springs. I fitted Weitec springs with the standard shocks & the car was like a pogo stick even after after a few months to allow things to settle. The standard shocks had only covered 28k on the car before I fitted the Weitec springs.

I ended up fitting Koni adjustable shocks with the Weitec springs & the ride was a hell of lot more settled & the handling improved vastly.

Cheers Oz,

I'm going to start pricing some new shocks up....more expense!

I think you will find that, with this sort of mileage on stronger springs is your problem. The standard shocks may have handled the H&R's with less mileage , but as the H&R's are quite a bit stronger than standard springs your best bet is to replace your shocks mate.

cheers

I think maybe the standard shocks just aren't up to it as Oggy had the same problem with only 28k.

The question now is replace with which brand?

The springs were £224 inc delivery . So i don't want to spend too much!

Vrs specific options so far are:

Cobra shocks @ £225

Koni sport (adjustable) @ £396 for the set

or Koni fsd's @ £420

Any other options?

Thanks

The springs have gone up,probably down to the euro.

Koni sport are the same as the FSD's apart from the FSD's do all the adjusting themselves rather than you playing around with the setting.

 How much! flip me they have gone up! I paid £167.00 all in last November.Like Jay says cause of the euro! :thumbdwn:

Yeah Awsome looked to have a good deal on these around that time, don't know what they sell em for now.

I never knew that thanks jay, I think i would pay the extra £24 for the FSD's if i were to go Koni. Do the fsd's use the original drop links if used with the H&R springs?

Did you get the springs from Awesome,as they were around £170 + delivery from them?

Yes standard drop links.

You should have got my KW's.

After the track session i may put them on as the handling wasn't the best.

No i got them from Dcdezign.com, they were slightly cheaper than europerformance and dpm. Had i known the H&R springs would be bouncy on standard shocks i would have snapped yours up lol.

:eek::eek:

My Weitec's were only just over £100 for the A4.

Weitecs are cheaper than H&R

Yes but are the H&R units worth the premium ?

Dunno Danny the jury is out lol.

I had an interesting chat via email with Dan from Dcdezign today.

Apparently the FSD's should n't really go with the H&R springs:

"they are not suitable for the H&R springs. They don't work properly running any more than a -15mm drop. The Koni sports which would be better are out of stock until the 3rd week in May. My recommendation would still be the Eibach Pro Dampers, they are designed for comfort and road holding, so perfect for a daily driver."

So what are the thought on the Eibachs They're a bit cheaper?

Yes but are the H&R units worth the premium ?

Yes they are for the Octy VRS MK1 . There are only a handful of springs for this model and the H&R's are top of the list(not including coilover setups). You only have to see this combination on a lot of VRS's owners on this site.

Martin, don't be put off buy this. yes FSD's are good with standard springs. But they are very good with H&R's. H&R's will not lower more than 15mm. Again most users with FSD's on there VRS's have H&R fitted and will tell you that this combination is superb(me for one of them , as I had it)

I know a lot of people recommend the FSD's but i aren't going to race and the Eibachs are very highly recommended by this company. This particular model is Eibachs best selling damper and has been for the past seven years so it can't be that bad? Looking at reviews they seem to get top marks.

Eibachs = £368

FSD's= £420

I maybe getting rid of the car in about a years time so can't really justify all the extra on the FSD's

Martin if your going to go for one of the above then go for the FSD's as they are proven to work with the H&R springs.

What works well on one car doesn't always work on another so i would pay the extra and go for the FSD's.;)

Er dunno but i pay mine off this year and it's getting a few miles on it now, possibly an Impreza.

I want to get these dampers ordered tomorrow and you boys just are not helping!

On the one hand i've got Dan @ Dcdezign who says the Eibachs are the best thing since sliced bread but i cannot find much about them on other forums. Then you lot and lots of other forums saying FSD's hands down.

ARRGGGGHHH!!!

ARRGGGGHHH!!!

If eibachs are the best thing since slice bread then why dont anyone on here or other forums with VRS's have them!!!

If mine,Berretas experience of Eibach springs is anything to go by then good luck on fitting these shocks. I not sure I have even seen them advertised specifically for the VRS which was the issue for the springs.

At the end of the day it is your money mate. My choice is FSD's (the tried and tested route) and ok £50 dearer but if you end up taking the eibachs off as they are not so good you won't have saved anything.

I had 3 imprezas before the VRS and still prefer the VRS. not 100% sure why though?
