New springs but its Bouncy, Bouncy!

Featured Replies

hi martin i can safely say your old shocks are knackered.they have lost there rebound.

Explains the bounciness, it will be like a new car with the FSD's on

I received the Fsd's today :D. Quick question, I notice the piston comes back up on them when pressed down. My OE shocks with 115k on them stayed in the same place when i pushed them down and i had to pull them up by hand!

Are my old shocks knackered or is this normal?

P.s i told you i knew nothing about suspension

As long as there is resistance there, the old ones are probably oil filled and the new ones gas.

yes there is resistance but not a lot and no rebound.

My fsd's come back up but the KW's stay were they are.

Both are oil filled but work in slightly different ways.

The shocks are there to support the springs as the springs do the work.IIRC

Well i got the Fsd's fitted today. What a difference! There is now very little body roll which gives me great confidence when i throw it into a roundabout or corner fast.

Driving on normal A roads feels like stock to me, very comfortable and more importantly the bouncing has stopped.

I must say i thought the H&R/FSD combo would a bit harder than it is i was expecting the worse lol.

Cheers for the recommendation Chaps

Glad your happy, quite good aren't they

I've just ordered my Koni sports today...£330...

Are H&R Springs the Best then??? i was going to change all the bushes too for powerflex items... is this worth doing??? and wot size is the front anti rollbar on an Octy VRS???

Standard front ARB is 19mm - well mine is anyway :D

So glad you like them Martin. That is the good thing about them, quite a standard feel when driving through town, but on the twistys they are great. That is when you start to feel the need for a RARB. (or the RARB doing it's stuff if one is fitted)

H&R's thumbs up from me:thumbup: Worth the extra £'s IMO.

Bushes not essential unless they feel knackered. You can progress to these later. Same with FARB bushes.

Just thought it might be worth doing them whilst it will all be in bits... see how the funds look :)

£330 is a good price for the sports, where are you getting them from?

gmaster, Driving yesterday by myself felt perfect. Today i had a friend in with me and it did feel a bit harder but i suppose its the same with all suspension.

Got them from Halfords Funnily enough!!!!

Some of the bits they sell are rather well priced.... (Koni's, Powerflex, Weitec)

Just find some one in your local store who knows what he is on about!!!

Martin yeah you will find at times they can feel quite hard on some back roads and around town going at a slower speed, but 99% of the time they are fine. Alot less crashy then the oem suspension too which is under dampered. I find the fsd's/h&r great on long sweeping bends like coming on and off motorway junctions feels very planted. Glad your enjoying them!

hopefully i will get my h+r springs this week, fingers crossed.on another note i have been trying for the last 2 weeks to get supersport uprated top mounts from venom motorsport with success, everytime i phone they will be in within a few days, but on there website they say they keep large stocks,i think someone is telling lies.the only other uprated top mounts i can find is from a guy over on vw vortex, has anyone ordered stuff from the usa?he,s wanting $117 dollars for 2 delivered.

Strut Mount, Track Density, M4 Chassis VW and Audi - 034 MOTORSPORT

I only know of the above ones,i do have a set of Density Street engine mounts fitted which are a big improvement on standard items with no vibration.

thats the ones i have seen jaymd, the guy is on vw vortex under username ina,a lot of the boys over on vortex has nothing but praise for the stuff he sells.

INA are ok.

I got my engine mounts though them on a group buy over on SCN.

The 1 thing i would say is they only come in 'Track' form which i don't know how stuff they would be.I saw a review of someone over on Ukmkiv who fitted a set to his golf but that was a 4motion which has a lot heavier engine.
