Interest in Castle Combe open pitlane trackday? 1/08/09

Featured Replies

Have been eyeing up potential trackday dates for a re-visit to combe and the 1st August looks a good one.

£169 for basically as much track time as your car will handle.

Firstly, it is important to say this is NOT a carshow or anything like that. It will be a trackday and nothing more. No bunting, just tools and probably spare tyres. :D

So, what does £169 get you? Well, it gets a car and driver into combe and able to drive the circuit for most of the day on an open pitlane basis. This basically means free access on and off the track.

100 decibel noise limit too (Des ;))

Passengers are £10 for the day, and extra drivers £35 for cars already signed up.

There will be professional instruction available as well, which I propose to use.

Word of warning! There WILL be trackheads in their 911 GT3 RS' etc who will be there for some serious petrolhead stuff. However, I don't see this at all as a reason not to go along and get some good track time. Better value than paying over £100 for 45 minutes at Castle Combe VW Audi driver trackday anyway.

Usual full drivers license required (both parts from memory) and crash helmet and a car in good running order.

At the moment, I am VERY up for this.

DISCLAIMER: This is not a Briskoda organised event and Briskoda has no involvement in the running of it and therefore no responsiblility for it. It's just little old me trying to gather some people for a good bit of trackwork.

I wish I'd put £10 on you being 2) :D

Might have to rethink this one Jason, actually - girlfriends' birthday is on the 3rd and I think we were meant to be doing something that weekend - gutted!

Try another date and I'll definitely make it, though ;)

That's not usually how open pit trackdays work, but it might be possible.

In regard to other dates, unless you do a midweek one Castle Combe doesn't have any other weekend slots. However, I did notice that Pembrey (near Swansea) has a £99 trackday on saturday 8th August. Pembrey is a pretty small track though at 1.4 miles. It's also a 3 groups per hour day, not open pitlane. Minimum age of 21 too.

Also, Abingdon airfield has a circuit of 1.8 miles, and Hullavington in Wiltshire as well. However those are only on Fridays so would involve a day off work (fine with me :D)

Not sure about combe, but i've been to Oulton Park days and never been a problem

3) Des, Delcac. You never know, I may even run some boost this time.

If I sorted my oil consumption issues and get a new pair of front discs, then yes, I would save up for this. Combe was a good track, but ten minutes was no where near enough to learn it for a first timer!

I maybe here if the car is running by then ;) I will let you know.

(Your title needs to be changed Jason - Unless this event was for last year)

As raised in a PM, there are cheaper trackdays run at the Abingdon airfield on Fridays....

£119 on 28th August suit anyone? I can't really do any earlier unfortunately due to work. Abgindon airfield might be more aggressive on tyres and much of it could be traffic cone chicanes rather than the real thing.

I wouldn't trust myself at this one, so can I just spectate aswell?

Jason, Someone organised a session at Hullavington, close to Castle Combe a couple of years ago - about 10 Briskys attended, link below, an excellent Open Pit Lane circuit for £109 per day with tution available if wanted. Its a fast curvy circuit but the events are only run on Fridays which can limit their appeal. They run several different locations every month - Link to organisers site below

Yep - Hullavington is an option and is similar to Abingdon in many ways - Also £109 for a day, such as Friday 5th June? Anyone up for that? :)

Friday 5th June would be fine for me. Also if people preferred it, I would also be able to do the 29th May at Abingdon ;)

I wouldn't be able to do 10th July, but as a track I know it is good, and that was on the old circuit when I went about 5 years ago or so on a Brisky arranged trip. :)

The good thing about airfield track days is if you really want to push your car and self to the limit there is no armco's, ditches, gravel traps, tyre barriers to hit, just a cone or two and nice green grass to run on to, so should be a lot safer.

me and brother are up for track days this year seeing as we now have a reliable but breakable track car :D
