New stainless exhaust... what products to use..

Featured Replies

Hiya all..

as you will see from my signature am about to have a Milltek cat back stainless system fitted @ JBS on the 9th of May (fantastic deal.. no fitment charge and under £300 :D )

anyhow, starting as i will mean to go on, am just thinking what products i should apply straight after fitment, or whether just to wait until i get home after???

I currently have these to hand off the top of my head, already:

Autosol

Werkstat Prime Strong

T Cut orignal

clay bar if at all needed with it being a new system

various LSP 's (poorboys ex-p, Poorboys Natty blue, Dodo Blue velvet, Turtle wax err wax lol)

be grateful for your advice, would just rather get something on and protecting from day 1

Nothing really.. The tips wont rust or corrode hence stainless

Possibly a bit of brasso when you want to clean it up from road grime etc

Autosol, Peek and Megs metal polish are all good.

so just something to protect (a barrier type thing) the new stainless tip really then, making it easier to get road grime off when i need too... am i understanding correctly :)

so whats the tip on the standard octy vrs tailpipe...as i had a right job trying to get what was someone elses 5 years of grime off lol i dont want that again haha

If you clean it regularly you should have no real issues.

I have always used alloy wheel protector on the exhaust tips of previous cars which works very well...designed to withstand the heat generated from the wheels/brakes etc so hot exhaust is a similar application in my book & yes it does make it easier to clean.

I use Chemical Guys Wheel Guard found here amongst other places online.

:)

Brasso Wadding, Autosol and Megs Metal Polish and you will have no problems but as has been said if it's stainless and you keep it clean you shouldn't need to use many products at all........

i was thinking along the same lines as that Chris, having seen on DW how easy alloys are cleaned when sealant has been put on them first, but just wasnt sure if it could be used on exhausts and if i do go for the new alloys i'd be wanting some wheel sealant anyhow ;)

I've used Chemical Guys Jetseal 109 on mine- seems to work really well.

Meguiars metal polish

brasso as recommended by mr baker to me a while back, a bit of elbow grease too!!

Thanks for all the tips guys! I will be trying to not let it get in too much of a bad state for it to warrant using any of the polishes, thats why i thought if i get a sealant on straight off, then washing down should be enough to keep it shiny and new ;)

oooo not long now, to fitment :D and then Milltek downpipe and sports cat fitment soon after when its payday on the 18th

Be carfel when fitting a section of stainless steel onto an existing sections of steel because of the corrosion issue between dis-simillar metals. Better off fitting a complete exhaust system if stainless steel onto a alloy engine - Article: Corrosion mechanisms in stainless steel

**update

they have extended the great price to include discount on the downpipe and sports cat now... so am having the full system fitted at the same time, although milltek are dragging there heels with one of the sections apparently...

its looking like later this month :D

Another vote for Megs metal 'polysh' which I use on my L&K 'zorst tips and it works wonders.
