Tyres Tyres Tyres ?????

Global credit crunch is forcing me to cut down on my motoring costs, the boss has me under pressure to go for budget tyres........so.........has anyone tried Maxxis tyres (MA V1) ???

Nope

Maxxis are very well known with in motorcross, off roading and mountain biking, make some of the best tyres going, some how I cant see there vehicle tyres being poor

Avoid at all costs!

Had these on the back of a Astra Coupe Turbo, had a tendancy to let go when ever they felt like it! Especially in the cold!

Had Fedral SS595's on the front of the same car and left me with more traction than the rear. I would recommend the 595's over the maxxis, or go for falkens.

Falken 452 are a good budget standard tyre, but like all standard/[erformance tyres they are going to be useless in snow/ice.

I think your boss might be being a bit short sighted and rather than using cheap tyres, he might want to look at using a cheap fitter. I know my local tyre chain can do me "premium" tyres for less than kwak fit and the like can do their budget tyres.

I have gone for Falken ZE-912 225/45/17 XL, thanks everybody for the helpful suggestions.

Maxxis are a budget brand from the US, similar sort of price range to Hankook etc. Being American they don't work too well in the damp climate here in the UK. I've driven a BM on those tyres, they were noisy as sin and tramlined like nothing I've ever experienced before or since.

Would definatily look for Kumho, they're actually designed for European weather.

He'll save about £50 for 4 tyres in the short term and they'll last half as long as a good quality or premium tyre.Have a look at his face when you phone in and explain about how the car slid into the ditch......

Point him to blackcircles.com then tell him to phone Kwikfit or however he uses and they will beat that price.

Budget tyres are a false economy, if you value your safety, offer to make up the difference out of your own pocket - you can claim some tax back if you do that.

# If you're looking for a good time # ...

Don't skimp on tyres, it's not worth it. Suggest you make up the difference between those and a set of Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas, or find a different job.

Tell your boss that you are entitled to at least OEM spec tyres, otherwsie if you do end up in a ditch, it will be legally his fault and he will end up in court, PLUS a premium brand tyre will outlast it and add fuel economy, so it is cheaper for him in the long run anyway.

If they pay for the car and its upkeep they can be responsible if under spec replacements are used/fitted and anything happens.

If they fit premium tyres as OE (which they do strictly speaking) you need them replacing with the same stuff.

Stand your ground and if you have already has some rubbish fitted push for them to be changed - I have used cheap tyres in the past and been alarmed when i needed them - emergency stop situation and brown pants.

Just an update........I have had the Falkens on for a couple of thousand K's and am absolutely delighted with them as soon as I get my rear geometry sorted I will be getting rid of the feathered rears and sticking some more Falkens on. I cant recommend them enough !!
