cables for aux input

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, picked up my octavia scout tdi 08 model saturday. well pleased with the finish and quality especially as I am an audi fan, please can any-one point me in the right direction. in the glove compartment is an aux input. I have an ipod nano 3rd gen. which cables did you get? and where did you get your cables? and do they work ok? any help greatfully recieved. mike

I just bought a griffin gizmo which charges as you play. It plugs into the ciggy lighter with a lead off to the ipod. you can also change tracks whilst the ipod is hidden away in the coolbox, via buttons on the top of the plug.

Expensive though at £30, but a better option than the god awful wireless transmitter.

I would second Harry's recommendation. Its called the Griffin Autopilot and is available in two versions - an FM transmitter and the AUX input version. Do not get the FM transmitter unless you live on the North Pole - the radio spectrum is just too crowded for it to work!

FM is alright, just not in hugely populated areas like m25 and within, but out in places like dorset, wales etc they fine.

Better to get 3.5 to 3.5

It can damage the Ipod leaving on charge constantly when no need to.

Ive tried 3.5mm to 3.5mm the quality wasnt, you have to turn the ipod right up to near max where as a dock to 3.5mm (as posted by me above) doesnt have charging on it but as its plugged from the dock into a 3.5mm aux in it gives a much better sound quality and because of this i updated the "fitting an mp3 lead to stream mp3" thread to show this lead. Just stick aux in to level 2 and its spot on.

I use my Aux in to plug in my radio scanner, Much more fun listening to shop/pub watch then the radio ;)

thanks all of you thats me sorted. mike

As sms says you need a docking plug to 3.5mm cable, not a 3.5-3.5. The docking plug will use the line out channel which means better quality.

Some mp3s use the headphone socket, but have switchable output channels.

thanks just ordered the cable from e-bay. docking one end and 3.5 at the other. many thanks mike

no probs you be suprised the difference using a dock to 3.5 than a 3.5 to 3.5

In order to prevent the killing of inncoent kittens... I thought I'd re-use this thread.

We've just invested in iPod Nano's and I'd like to plug it into the 'Aux' in my armrest. Unfortunately the links posted above have expired, can someone confirm that these are suitable?

And is it possible to scroll through the tracks from the Stream headunit, or would I have to use the iPod controls?

to add a question

Not sure on the cables as don't own an Apple iPod.

However, the other question is you will have to use the iPod controls

Thanks

3.5mm stereo plug to 3.5mm stereo plug is what you need...

This from Maplin will do the job...

...and eBay - there's loads but you won't go wrong with this one >>here<<

HTH? :)

I tried with a standard 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack plug lead, and ound the sound quality not very good, and the volume very quiet so that both the ipod and stereo had to be on full volume so you can hear it.

After reading some posts on this site, I discovered for the iPod, its best to get a lead with an iPod connector on one end, and 3.5mm jack at the other, these are available cheaply on eBay.

Apparentyly the sound level out of the 3.5mm headphone socket on the ipod, is a much lower level than out of the iPod connecter.

have you whilst on the aux in screen pressed the bottom right button by the screen? there will be a little arrow next to the button. press it and you get a choice of level 1, 2 or 3 which amplifies the sound. just choose your setting here.

no as you havent wired in a control box only an aux in, meaning that the only thing the stereo picks up is whats coming through the line in and nothing from the stereo is sent out to the ipod so nothing can be displayed on the stream screen either.

Thanks all, have ordered a cable now. Also took the opportunity to get an iPod to RCA cable, so I can play it through the Hi-Fi.

How much are those cables from Maplin! - I think I paid a couple of quicd from B&Q!

the dock to 3.5mm cable i bought in maplins originally was about £15 ish but got the same cable on ebay for a few quid.
