Windscreen washer jets

Featured Replies

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel cheated with these silly washer jets for the windscreen.

I had them on my old Octy, but even my Superb has the damned things. They seem cheap, very plasticy, have no adjustment or for that matter no heating either.

Is it just a cost cutting my VW big brother to try and get under our skins?

Cheers

I quiet like the washer jets on my rs , I get a mist that kind of covers the whole screen. Unlike the mondeo which just deposits 4 jets at fixed locations on the screen. Even through the last winter they did not freeze once, i guess thats because they are mounted beneath the bonnet rather than on top thats most common.

Ah, that mist is actually supposed to happen? I used mine for the 1st time at the weekend, and thought they were all over the place :D

You learn a new thing everyday here... ;)

Yes they r suposed to do that , it took time to get used to for me as well , after my Capris!

I tried sticking a pin in at first because I thought they were 'out' but when you get used to them they seem ok :eyecrazy:

When they work on the capri that is. Half the time the wash is stuck in the pipe.

MY o/s jet spray's the back edge of the bonnet, which isn't very good for corrosion protection or the paint work. I don't fancy having to re-align the bonnet just to correct it

Fine mist spray's are ok for humidifiers...give me a real mans jets!

This is fairly easy to fix. It all comes down to the scuttle panel tht the jet sits on. You could get your freindly dealer to simply remove and refit it. I had this problem on the drivers side and after removal/refit it was fine.

I get a good mist covering when washing the screen, but I have noticed that the left hand wiper does not seem as strong, or apply as much pressure as the wiper on my side. The result of this is that my side is clear (which I guess is most important) but the passenger side is still greased up. Sometimes, there is a nice little curve of grease at the extreme of the left hand wipers right way motion (if you get my drift :D)

I'm also happy with freezing up. I live on Dartmoor, pretty much, and we do suffer with colder winters than the rest of Devon/S.England, so freezing pipes could be a problem. Even during a week long spell of permanent frost this winter, I was still able to wash off the gunk that results from Highways spreading salt/grit on the roads. (not that I'm against gritting - They got me to work most of the week)

You could also try yourself just pressing down hard on the edge of the scuttle panel along the bottom edge of the windscreen - it clips into a channel underneath. If it's not properly seated it would have the effect of cocking up the washer jet too much - worked for me ....
