My Octy's sick

Featured Replies

Hi guys, hope you can help.

Last week I had the engine warning light come on (solid) on my MK1 Octy Vrs, so I purchased an OBD2 cable and got the freeware version of Vag-Com. The temp sensor was at fault so that has been replaced and the fault reset.

I've Just been driving back from work and excelerating out of a roundabout my car lost the majority of it's power, what power that remained was lumpy and 60mph was hard to maintain. The engine warning light was flashing whilst this was happening then after 30 seconds or so the power returned and the fault light went out.

Got home and scanned for codes and got the following.

Now my car is 4 and a half years old with 38,000 on the clock, it's been mapped for 3 years. I have a set of sparkplugs ready to be fitted - is it possible that the current plugs are failing or could it be more serious?

Cheers for reading.

Slightly more serious:

Get a coil pack or two (useful for a spare) and replace the one on number 3 cylinder. The cylinders are numbered from the timing belt end (drivers side) at number 1 through to number 4 closest to the gear box.

Thankyou. This was my first gut feeling. Is the coilpack a roadside repair job (eay job) as i'm off to Germany in it soon? I always go with caution so may change all 4 and use the old ones as future spares.

Finally I thought I read somewhere that these were being exchanged by Skoda even after the warranty had expired or was that just a certain faulty batch made before a certain date?

Just been and taken it for a drive to see if I need a lift to work tomorrow - it's terible.

Will have to change this before I next drive it.

Thank-you very much both of you - your help is much appreciated

Coils are easy to replace! few allen head bolts and they pull off :)

Ok, so I had error 16687 which is a misfire on cylinder 3. Suspecting the coils I swapped coil 3 with the coil on cylinder 1. I now have the error code 16686 which is a misfire on cylinder 2

Are the coils/cylinders numbered in ignition order maybe as this result was not expected.

Also my coils are part number 06B 905 115N, should I get the new R model type?

The coilpacks are interchangeable between cylinders.

its possible to have multiple failures, but I would just recheck the connections on number 2 to see if they are ok.

Coil 2 had moisure in

Anyway, today I fitted a new set of sparkplugs and 4 new coils and all is well again.

Thanks
