Amsterdam

Featured Replies

Me & a couple of mates are looking to drive to Amsterdam next month some time.

Anyone got any recommendations for parking, best routes, etc?

Missed a bit

We did this last year or the year before. Took the chunnel, which was great because when we turned up they just got us on the next one, making the overall journey quicker than the ferry. Once over in France, I can't remember the actual roads we took, apart from it was the obvious route that stood out and Mr P had driven to Holland before so knew the route was a gooden.

We drove to the airport and parked up there, after booking our parking on line. It was something like thirty odd quid for five days, which is a whole lot better than trying to drive in a city that is really not car friendly. This reflects in their very high parking charges, which I think would have been about 30/40 per twenty four hours. This was no hassle whatsoever. We simply parked up, hopped on the bus to the airport terminal, bought a train ticket to the centre and got straight on the train at the terminal for a 15 minute journey to the centre. All the trams, buses and boats are then right there outside central station.

The train journey from the airport cost about a fiver. If you travel by tram within Amsterdam I suggest buying a ticket to cover your whole stay, it works out better value.

This was so simple, I would do it again this way for sure.

Yeah, I've been looking at the costs of parking and

I went by train from Schipol the last time when I flew, really good trains over there, but I really want to drive this time.

Airport parking all OK? No problems with your car?

We didn't take mine that time, just in case! But doing it the once with no problems, I would certainly take mine the next time. It was no different to leaving it in any other airport when you go away. I know you really want to drive, but Amsterdam is a city where you really don't need your car. Actually, thinking about all the cities I've been to, you don't really need your car in any of them!

After driving the route, the last thing you need is to end your journey navigating around a non car friendly city! Just think of all that beer money you would be wasting on the parking!

Yeah I noticed that last time....

The main roads are an absolute nightmare for driving (and walking tbh). If the trams don't get ya the bikes'll take a shot lol.

I didn't want to drive about while I was there, just wondered what would be the best option on parking.

I think the airport thing will be our best shot.

who's going you and the boys???

is andy going??? could be fun if he is lol
