Lamp failure oddity

Featured Replies

Yesterday I parked on the 1st floor of the Multi-story in Chiltern Street London. When I got back to the car and switched on, maxidot display took a small eternity to tell me, one lamp at a time, that every single bulb in the car had gone.

Fairly obviously they hadn't.

I did try switching off, waiting a few minutes and trying again - same result.

Apart from the lamp warning light, this also meant that the internal indicator went at double speed (but not the ones outside).

This morning - everything back to normal.

Identical thing happened to me in December. Apparently car had gone into "service mode". Dealer was unable to find cause and submitted a report to Skoda.

That sounds like an ECU problem. I had one replaced when the bulb warning light stayed on and the display told me that the reversing lights, the front rh foglight and the rear lh indicator bulbs were out. Replacement cured my problems. If yours are intermittent, might be a connection, or "advanced warning."

Hi, the EXACT same thing happened me tonight. 22 lamp failures on the maxidot, after an hour, everything back to normal. same issue with the indicator??? what was the outcome of this for you? I'm worried when un-expalained things like this happen......i've only got this skoda 8months and already, a few things a really pi$$ing me off:(

That could be a failing battery. They do weird things when batteries fail. How old is the car?

It sounds a bit like a CAN bus fault. If the instrument pack doesn't get any messages from the BCM, it would report every bulb having failed. But then I'd expect lots of other fault messages too!
