Relays / Radio and Inside Light

Featured Replies

Chaps,

I'll come clean ... this is my first post here and I don't own a Skoda! Sorry ....

BUT, a friend of mine does, and is having problems with it.

It's a 2003 Hatchback, with the 8v 1400cc engine. (I think this makes it a Mk1 - apologies if I am wrong about this.)

She is having problems with the internal equipment coming on when it shouldn't - the radio has started working without the key in the ignition and the internal light works all the time when set to 'Door Open' position (i.e. it should go off when the doors are closed but it doesn't.)

These are all new symptoms; she bought the car (at my recommendation, to replace a stolen Polo) about five months ago and all was fine then. The problems have started in the last couple of weeks or so. There have been no changes made to the car in this time; she hasn't fitted a new radio or anything, for example. (The whole car is totally standard.)

I haven't investigated in detail, but have seen the problems first-hand, so know it isn't 'user error.'.

I also don't know where to find the relays on the car. They aren't by the fuses (funny fuse box position BTW, but it makes good sense), and they don't seem to be in any of the usual VW positions (under steering column, under glovebox or in the back of the engine bay.)

So, two questions.

1. Where are the relays on a Mk1 Fabia?

2. Do these symptoms sound at all familiar to anyone, or could anyone have a guess as to what is causing them?

All help welcomed, thanks.

Oli.

Any water leaks?

What trim level is it? If it's a higher one it could be a dodgy or wet CCU (Central Convenience), though they're only fitted in the higher ones.

Have a look in the VAG-COM forum, see if anyone can scan it for her, as it might reveal a CCU problem. I'm sure someone will be able to say where the relays/ccu are in a moment.

cjb,

Thanks for answering.

I don't know what trim level it is, but I think it is a very basic one. It has manual windows at the front, a tape player and no central locking. I slightly doubt there is a computerised central convenience unit, although it is a good suggestion.

(I don't think there are any water leaks in it either - it all looks dry, no smells of damp or mustiness, and no tell-tale marks on anything.)

I have a friend with VAG-COM, so that's a good idea thanks; despite there being (or I suspect there being) no CCU.

Oli.
