Replacing rear brake discs - help needed

Featured Replies

I'm trying to replace rear brake discs + pads with my 2004 Skoda Octavia II 1.9TDI.

There are few models of discs used on this car - 255/10mm and 260/12mm - which one should I use? Does it have to be exactly the same size as the one on the car now or can I put bigger/smaller one?

I've managed to take off the wheel, the caliper and brake pads but I'm struggling to find the correct key to unscrew 2 screws holding the caliper mount - anyone knows what tool should I use to unscrew them? It looks like a star key, I don't know the size though? Any ideas?

Any help appreciated.

You have to replace the disc with the exact same size. Measure the old disc or take your VIN number to a parts supplier to get the correct replacement.

I though the caliper carrier retaining bolts were hex-socket (i.e. Allen key) - but I may be wrong.

Is there any chance I can check the stock disc size using VIN on the Internet?

Not being funny, but if you don't know what you are doing then I wouldn't be touching something like the braking system on an octavia. Have you got the tool to wind back the calipers??? Some things are best left to experts

Yeah, got the brake rewind tool and it's all sorted now. Brand new discs and pads fitted today... all singing and dancing now :-)

Any chance of telling me what size star key/allen key you used? I am struggling with mine.

Thanks
