Ecommerce Software for Mac OSX Leopard

Featured Replies

Appologies if this is in the wrong place. Am looking to finally get my photography out there and try and make some money from it, So i need a proper online shop with checkouts and such. I did train in website building and multimedia at college but it was on a very basic level, so am seeking proper looking website from some software.

trouble is most of it is for Windows OS and Im a Mac boy so if anyone out there knows of any reasonably priced Ecommerce stuff for Mac plzplz let us know. Many thanks.

I see you're based in Worcester - if you're serious about this and willing to spend some decent money to get a very good looking and professional photography web site out there then give Hughes Media (http://www.hughesmedia.co.uk) a ring. To give you some idea the very cheapest web sites they do start at £2500 - so it is serious money but you get a serious product matching the likes of Fly 53 store Gundog Training Equipment - Sporting Saint and Catering Equipment Online - all of which have been produced in the last couple of years.

Alternatively if you're looking to work on a budget, look at my thread in 'Members Services' and see if you're interested...

Also - most if not all e-commerce systems that I have been involved with are installed on a web server (which is typically linux or windows based) and you then manage/administrate it through a web browser, which can be installed on pretty much any platform you like. So worrying about e-commerce systems targeted at macs/pcs is the wrong route to be going down.

There is a major free e-commerce piece of software called 'oscommerce' (google it) - you would need to purchase web hosting and probably pay someone to initially set the site up for you. But I think that you would need some kind of bespoke solution to prevent people from just copying the photos from the web site and printing them themselves ;).

As Ed says, your OS is not important, as a web shop will be running on a hosted server somewhere so all you need is web and email access- even a Mac can do that ;).

A quick search in google throws up some possibles:

online shop

As far as photo theft is concerned, you probably want to watermark them to stop that.
