How to fit A Seat Strut Brace on the Fabia (discussion)

Featured Replies

So to recap - this was originally posted where? I never noticed it appear ... but maybe I was away.

Now that I've seen them, I can concur with others who've said they're very nicely presented. Well done

Cheers Nick, Collin has given me free reign over the FAQ section so give it a couple of days and it will look a right mess ;):D

So - to link to another thread - gonna do one about MAF cleaning then?

And I'm sure we could think of another hundred or so to keep you busy...

Edit: but that doesn't answer the original question - did you originally post it in an FAQ, and if so, how do they get publicised? I don't remember seeing them in "New posts" - so maybe the FAQ section doesn't get included in that search. How did anybody know there was a new FAQ?

yes i shall do one too for fitting the whippet restraining system to the car and the ferret storage box aswell

oh and if you want to lower someone's i might be persuaded to let you do mine :D

Ah the old WRS :D and BTW it's a Chilled Ferret storage box. ;)

Ah Mike now we are talking but I need to speak to Ross about the special tools you need to do this, I think it's called a FBH (Fooking Big Hammer)

And Nick for MAF cleaning speak to Jason (Devonutopia), he's done that more times than I have had hot dinners.

Ivan, I'm not asking you how to do it - I'm suggesting we have a FAQ so that the new people (see http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?p=189128) can just read the relevant FAQ and we save on duplicating the same answer over and over again ...

It's great that someone is going to look after FAQs - I'm just suggesting material - and I can do that until the cows come home :D

Jason - wanna write an FAQ for Ivan to publish?

Yes you need a big hammer - well on the Octy you do, anyway. Sadly I didn't take any pics when I did mine.

To Nick (who always seems the last to know :P): ChavyBoy first published a thread in the Fabia section, which was moved by Colin to the FAQ's as it was such a great guide. It already received a few comments, but as the FAQ is a no-posting section, I split the thread into this one and the FAQ post (which refers to this thread for discussion). The whole idea behind is that someone does a search, finds the FAQ, raises a question and posts that here to be answered.

Ok, I'll ask my question again since I did not see any answer but a lot of debate regarding where the article should be. :thumbdwn:

How much improvment did you notice after the strut brace was installed?? Does it realy make a difference?

I guess this question is pretty relevant to the topic and I will need a straight answer before I can dedice if I will install one. It looks good there, but I am more into practical usage of a strut brace.

Thank you.

Simple answer really, how many touring cars do you see with Strut braces ?? All of them ! I can't comment on how much it tightens the front end up as I have not been able to get out and try it yet but I have been reliably informed that the car turns in quicker.

PS there is also a search function which may have given you the answer.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, using the search function did answer my questions.

Of course, strut braces are fitted on sport cars (so sport suspension too), but I still have stock suspension ( mine is not even a vRS, it's a 1.4 MPI ). The question comes naturaly, to me: using a strut brace on stock suspension can improve handling or it should be the last thing to do, after suspension mod, stabilizer, etc?

Well I have a standard vRS as do many people with just a strut brace and alot of people have said it tightens it up nicely, but add the stiffers springs and the car will be rock solid.

The thing I don't want to compromise is comfort as a few cars I've have owned have had a very stiff suspension setup which made them a nightmare at high speeds as they would skip over the road with the smallest undulation. Hopefully the strut brace will tighten up the front end so it turns in alot more freely but not effect the ride harshness which it shouldn't do.

P.S. I should be writing a how to lower your fabia soon with the aid of Dogmaul which may help if you want to lower your car.

Akebono - sorry for dragging the thread off topic.

My answer to your question would be - a strut brace is a cheap thing to fit and will have a minor effect on your car. I would think that with stock suspension it will be hardly noticeable. On my Octy (which has transplanted VRS springs and shocks) the effect is pretty minor but I like to think noticeable, although that may be auto-suggestion at work :P

Edit: and in your question you did answer yourself, in a way, since you said the conclusion could only come from those who had had a brace fitted for a while ...

For those with an interest in the S3 strut brace for the Octavia, I added a few pics of the upper one to my gallery last night - click below.

Nick do they do a lower brace for the Fabia ?

Ivan - I would think this would depend on whether things like the Ibiza have them, since the ones that fit the Octy are from other models in the VAG range. I'm sorry, I just don't know. Why not talk to someone like VAGparts or Euro Car Parts? Alternatively there may be after-market offerings, like Neuspeed for example?

Yerr might have to give them a call.

Cheers Nick.

AAT (I think do a lower brace for the Fabia.)

AAT (I think do a lower brace for the Fabia.)

Yep they do. Spoke to Erik about these. Just need to order on sometime to go with the Forge upper one.

ooh att might go look at that then :D

Well I've just taken my strut brace off (selling the car) and I can notice the difference :thumbdwn:

It now feels more vague at the front end and woolly, whatever that means

it means you have your hands on a sheep and not the steering wheel i must admit that would affect the handling of the car and might cause you to crash :(
