Nice one for the FAQ section.

The only thing missing is tools required... I know I'm being picky but if someone was to buy at strut brace and both a 10mm and 13mm ring spanners could they do the job or do they need sockets.

Thanks for a great HowTo with clear photos showing the job being done and again sorry for being picky.

Dave

Cheers guys I have edited the post for the tools required and yes Dave you can do the job with only the 2 spanners but I used a socket set as 2 of the lower 10mm bolts are a little tricky to get to but not impossible. Dave your not being picky and is was a good job you reminded me TBH.

I have PM'd colinD to ask to put it in the FAQ as well so fingers crossed.

BTW Ross what is that black box called as I will edit the post with the correct name ?

Im not 100% sure of the Skoda term for it but effectively its a vaccum accumilator I think.

Will double check.

Cheers Ross, I hope to do another FAQ on how to change the oil in the vRS that's why I ask you a while back on how to remove the old filter etc.

Funnily enough I've got my 20k service to do next week and was going to do the same, including a pollen filter change.

Good work ol chap get to it....

Be good to see if I am doing it right. Also how do you get rid of the old socks smell from the air-con, I know it is bacteria that needs killing off, when I took it to Skoda a few months back they flushed it out with disinfectant but how do I do it ? Any pics ?

Thanks Ivan

Excellent "How To"...

Fantastic work Ivan

I've split your thread into the FAQ and a discussion thread (this one). Also closed the FAQ, but you should be able to maintain your FAQ if you require to do so (if not, let me know and I make sure you can). We would prefer to see the images hosted on the briskoda server (if you need more gallery space, just shout) if you don't mind. You can add a little © ChavyBoy Enterprises to the pictures if you want to though ;)

So can i do one one how not to fit a strut brace?:o

Quniten thanks for adding it in. Just good to let others know "who to" really as I don't like seeing people being ripped off by garages for something that will take about 1/2 hour to do. I will move the photos to Briskoda for you.

Nice guide Ivan.

Might be using this soon ;)

Cheers Ivan. It might be worth mentioning that the strut bolts should be torqued down to 25Nm. This is quoted in the SEAT fitting instructions.

25Nm is 3 parts of b***er all - are these the nuts that also hold the strut to the car? I'd want mine a lot tighter than that. However I'm not trying to say the instructions are wrong - if that's what they say I guess that's what you should do.

Cheers I will update that little piece of info.

25nm will be fine, and remember they are only 13mm headed M8 bolts, they aint gonna take 100nm.

Can tell who drives a classic British car ;)

Nick I have a 3' extension bar if you need to get a bit more force onto those nuts, also you may find a lump hammer useful :D

When the bolts/studs shear don't blame me.

I bow to your superior knowledge. Of course our antiquated British cars, not being of the standard of the superior VAG workmanship, require more agricultural methods.

You mean it parts don't fit use a fooking big hammer to make em fit

Let's just remember where the Industrial Revolution began, shall we? And perhaps a certain Josiah Whitworth (English) might be remembered also. One of his achievements was the first standard system of screw threads....

was he from near rochdale ???

Erm, if it's not a daft question, what do the bolts that you are supposed to undo actually hold? ie. when you take them out to put the brace on, nothing is going to drop out underneath is it?! Also, how is one as a non techie going to judge 25nm of torque with a spanner?

D

buy a torque wrench they are great really usefull

nice one ivan
